Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 30, 2014 Members Posted August 30, 2014 has anyone else noticed that when a topic comes up, and a general comment is made, such as "that was interesting" or "thank you for the information", that the thread generally shuts down? I think perhaps, unless the thread topic is such that it draws attention, the impact and interest in the thread just comes to a standstill due to the fact that the "general" comments are the only ones seen when the "active topics" tab is clicked. For example, if it's a video that is in the OP, a general comment (not even saying *why* it might be interesting), totally wipes out the video's availability of being seen when scanning the topics... all one sees is the mediocre comment...which doesn't make anyone want to bother clicking on it. Woody Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Who gets to decide whose comments are meaningless or not? Should we set up a committee? How much of a majority would be needed to declare it meaningless? What I am getting at is: Some post huge long posts to respond. Does the length determine if it is "meaningless" or not? Personally - When it comes to meaningless posts --- I prefer them to be short ones vs long ones. Hmmm. Is there anything else I can think of to say? Just stay tuned. There are many threads where there would be no response at all except for that little bit that shows up so regularly. I was just stating what appeared to be a reason that some otherwise interesting threads just die a short, quick death... isn't it possible that those threads that have only the :: cough, cough :: "short, appreciative comments" would actually have more comments, but for the bland "this is good", "this is nice", etc comments? Do you actually go back and read what exactly was "good", "nice", or whatever? If someone is truly wanting to be appreciative, why not state what it was that intrigued the responder so much? That would be much more effective...and it might pique the curiosity of those who hadn't seen the OP. Even the "thumbs up" gives a visual clue that the OP or other post was of import and note. However, I realize my was just that.... and very few generally see things from differing perspectives. I'll throw away the soap box and try to fit back into the mold....
