Katy Perry on God

Interesting quote that I heard on a Katy Perry Documentary that is airing on cable in Australia at the moment, 

 

"I think that people love the idea of a good girl gone bad, and they think that my parents have disowned me, but that's not the story at all. 

 

I really do believe in God. I probably don't believe in the same detail that my mum believes. But I have a spiritual relationship with God and its one on one and its continually evolving". 

 

It is mentioned in the documentary that her parents were and are Pentecostal ministers and that they have no problem with her music or the career that she has taken up with. It does come across interestingly enough that there has been pressure on her to suggest that there is some type of problem there for publicity, yet as she states, that is not the case at all.

Thank you for sharing. Sometimes we separate the religious world from the rest of the world. It reminds me of a few other stories. One of them is how for years Little Richard either felt that he had to be a Rock and Roll singer with the typical Rock and Role lifestyle and have nothing to do with God. Then he would become completely religious and not sing his songs but try to be a preacher or colporteur and find that except for the initial novelty, people were not that interested in his services. Then he would go back into the rock world and give up his religious life. Finally people challenged him to the idea that he had to be a sinner as a singer and that he became a Christian and a strong Christian living the Christian life and making a living with his songs. He has been able to minister to people who would have nothing to do with him when he tried to leave his music behind and work for church.

 

It also reminds me of  the story of Alice Cooper. He would be very spooky and feed into the idea that he sold his soul to the Devil and was demon possessed to become a Rock Star. His dad was a minister, and he wanted nothing to do with God or religion. Well after a little bit with the promiscuity, drugs and alcohol, as he matured his life style off stage was nothing like his image on stage. He finally confessed that his on stage image was only an image, that he never sold his soul to the devil, and that while he was not religious that he felt that his parent's religion must have influenced his life and that the apple does not fall far from the tree. He married, had a family and became a responsible father, gave up drugs and became a strong family man, although he did not want to be religious. However one thing that he could not give up no matter what he tried was alcohol.  Finally he fell to his knees and asked Jesus into his life and asked Jesus to help him to gain a victory over alcohol and trusted in Jesus to help as he worked with programs that have been successful with others but not him doing alone. He is now a Christian and also helping others.

 

Lets pray for Katy Perry and for her to grow into a deeper relationship with God and learn more about him.

Another example of solid born-again Christians is Reggie Arvizu and Jonathan Davis of Korn. At a concert about a year ago, I saw them with a minister named Todd White laying hands on people and praying before the concert, calling people to Christ. I was shocked, but blessed at the same time.

These are worldly examples of worldly people still performing for The World, and pretending that God will let it slide.

 

I think I recall the story of either Wintley Phipps or Charles Haugabrooks, both super-talented SDA singers -- after being raised in the church and being known as a great voice, at one time one of them "experimented" with singing worldly songs, and God came and took away his voice and said if he went down that path he would never sing again!

 

Yeah, the worldly people have no idea what they are doing!

Oh, they had free will!  God just made it real plain that if they turned from doing the special work with the *special talent* that He gave them, He'd take it away!  Just sort of what happened to the first 2 people that God approached to give His visions to before He approached Ellen White, they opted not to accept them and I believe they never really stayed with the church.  God never takes away man's free will.

I don't think we can really judge whether these people are sincere, right with God or the value of what they are doing.  God can use anyone or anything no matter how flawed or worldly to his glory.  Keeping things in perspectives, relative to where people Katy Perry, or others out there, may reach and touch with this simple testimony of faith, she may be saintly in comparison.  They may never hear it from anyone else.  A tiny seed planted can grow to be a tree...  Such is the kingdom of heaven according to the One being professed.

I've heard other stories about talented Christian singers who crossed over into secular music.  Many of them have successfully competed in both markets.  Through groups like U2, Need to Breathe, Skillet, and others, people who whold never go to church get a healthy dose of Holy Spirit.

 

Unless we take Jesus to the worldly, they may never get a chance to meet Him. We're not saving anyone if we only preach and sing to them inside a church.

 

An example - Skillet is playing here in Denver with the band G-dsmack (I couldn't bring myself to print their name - it's sacreligious to me) Those hyped-up head-bangers will also get an overdose of God tonight.

Yes, God is trying to reach people at all levels in this world -- but there is a fast-approaching Deadline to the time left for people to get to the final level of spiritual maturity wherein they will be saved!  And unfortunately, too many people get stuck at the intermediary levels.

 

Music is one of the most dangerous types of "fire" to play with -- all of today's music with its heavy base and pounding syncopated drums and "catchy" guitar rifts is addictive -- I married a woman who's God-given talent is singing classical music, so she's set me straight on things many times...(I grew up playing drums)....

 

Spirituality is a GROWTH PROCESS -- if people stop growing, then they will probably be lost when the End of Time arrives.

 

Proverbs 14:12 -- "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the ends thereof are the ways of death"!

 

Little girl Katy Perry needs to sit down and have a serious talk with Wintley Phipps and/or Charles Haugabrooks.

Ah, but she's on God's Radar -- but it's sad to know that she's in the position of messing with the minds of millions of impressionable people...

 

Young people like her just don't realize the importance of seriously searching for God...

"Saints" who represent God as an arbitrary and stern overseer; and who judge or condemn others just because they don't agree with the "saints'" point of view also mess with the minds of impressionable people; and discourage them from seriously searching for God.  Who wants an encounter with an omnipotent being who is mad at them (or so they have been told)?

I guess I have a unique view of hearing things -- I don't care whether it's "loud" or "quiet," "impassioned" or "mumbled" -- the important thing is whether or not there is TRUTH in what people say!

Sometimes it takes a GIANT VOICE to get through to us -- I've heard stories of God turning people into paraplegics in wheelchairs in order to "get their attention" -- and I say, "Go for it, God, if that's what it takes!"

My stepson son has been in a Florida prison for 15+ years, and I'm just thankful that God played "hardball" with him because he was just going to be an idiot all his life otherwise, but now God has gotten his attention and he is finally paying attention to the things he needed to pay attention to all along!

And accordingly, we might see him in Heaven.

At this stage of the game, I think everyone should be praying for God to do to everyone what Jesus did to Saul/Paul on the road to Damascus!

It may be the only thing that gets through people's hard heads!

An acquired taste, certainly: and believe it or not, the lyrics are quite discernable with experience.

I guess my point was just to broaden the range of what is considered musically 'acceptable' beyond just the cultural tastes of a very narrow group in a very narrow window of time.

My music is not for most of you. But that's OK, because your music is every bit as much not for me.

(and that doesn't prove your tastes are divine and mine are otherwise - or indeed vice versa. It just shows our tastes are different - and that's OK)

The sound is out on my computer, so this note doesn't refer to any sounds I've heard on thiis thread. OTOH trying to decide what works another person does that will fit them for heaven is like trying to do our own works to make ourselves salvadgeable.

If one is interested in doing the works that will be most influencial in our's or another's works, the most important step one can take is to acquaint one's self with Jesus.

 

Depart from me for I never knew you. Matt 7:23 is instruction to those who were really trying hard to do all they knew to be right at the harvest.

 

Ye shall seek Me and find Me when ye search for Me with all your heart...Jeremiah 29:13

 

For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.   Luke 19:10

 

Seems to me if we're of the opinion we're good enough to be saved, we haven't gotten close enough to Jesus to see our need.

 

God is Love! Jesus saves!

Whatever brings a person into a closer relationship with God - an "experience" with Him - will help fit a person for heaven.  How do we know what kind of music God likes?  Over the period of His existence (like, forever), He's had plenty of time to develop a very broad taste in music.  I'll bet He's heard some doozies given up in His honor.  He's probably OK with just about type of music given to Him to Him in love.
