back in the mid-1960's

Does anyone remember reading/hearing a story written about the last days on earth, right before the 2nd coming?

 

I'm thinking it was probably written by an SDA, because [as I recall] a number of situations seemed to be fictionalized accounts of various Biblical prophecies with EGW overtones.

 

The one part that I vaguely recall had to do with SDA's turning in other SDA's, both family and friends, to authorities for breaking national laws.  

 

Our teacher read the story to us over the course of several days, and it surely did keep our attention.

 

Anyone else remember such a story??

 

(the story had nothing to do with the more recent "Left Behind" novels..)

This is something my dad told us prior to the 1960's. Not to be concerned about those outside the church but to have a watchful eye on those sitting next to you in the pew.

Was it written by a young girl and in the form of a tract?

it might have been.  I never saw the paper that the teacher was reading from.  It *does* ring a bell that the story was written by a girl, though..

It was written by Marikay Silver. The name of the booklet was Now.

I have seen one come used through the store but did not read it. How did listening to it affect you, Pam? Was it a good thing or a bad thing?

I remember loving the book as a teenager. I read it several times. Our Bible teacher had us rewrite it, how we thought things might happen for us. I enjoyed the exercise a lot. It was positive. Oh, you weren't asking me. LOL

I am happy to read both views! Like I said, I didn't read it myself. Now I am thinking that it might have some historical value along the lines of Questions on Doctrine.

Merikay stayed with me in my home when she came to the L.A. area for the trial.   That was more than 30 years ago.

 

Now on this video she says she has a wonderful husband.   I know she divorced her first husband; does anybody know who she's married to now?    I think she's a wonderfully strong Christian woman.

Lorna Tobler was a 2nd woman at the Pacific Press who worked closely with Merikay and faced some of the same issues that Marikay faces.   It is unlikely that at some points Merikay would have succeeded if it had not been for the help of Lorna Tkobler.

 

As an interesting point:  Lorna received a larger settlement from the Press than did Merikay.
