teresaq Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 In the scriptures Christ and His church is compared to our body. A question has arisen in that, if Jesus is the Head of the church, where on earth would that place men who would be some kind of "head" in God's church? No body has two heads, not even one larger and one smaller....so where in the body of Christ would "male headship" (or any form of human headship) fit in? For those faithful to the Head, this below is true. 2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 1Thess 5 God is Love! Johann Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 When I graduated from the SDA Theolgical Seminary in 1958 we had never heard of this strange Male Headship. It came much later as a new strange theory. teresaq 1 Quote
teresaq Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 It certainly has been "strange fire" to me. We at least did lip service to the idea of only Christ as the Head of the church...but perhaps what has confused many converts is our walk does not match our talk? teresaq Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 Fine....so pray tell what illustration did God use to show this? All I see is Head-Body. Shepherd-Sheep. Etc. Now I realize the Papacy believes and incorporates an hierachy, which the reforming churches copied to some degree...but I have to go by my bible and I am just not seeing any intermediaries between Christ and His people, His body. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 11, 2014 Administrators Posted November 11, 2014 And consider that in the divine math of marriage 1+1=1 or 2=1. If marriage is described as "the two shall be one", how does one rise above itself to assert dominance over itself? teresaq and Leticia 2 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted November 11, 2014 Members Posted November 11, 2014 just wondering: if marriage in the human world (the two shall be as one, with neither exerting dominance over the other) is a shadow of the relationship between Christ and the church, it kinda sounds like Christ and the church have equal authority.. teresaq 1 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 11, 2014 Administrators Posted November 11, 2014 Part of the fallacy of the headship heresy is that it s about authority, and rulership. The idea of the head/body metaphor makes it more about unity and oneness. One cannot exist/survive without the other. teresaq and Johann 2 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Johann Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 It seems like male headship is strongest where prostitution is regarded as an essential part of culture. The two go hand in hand. teresaq 1 Quote
Administrators debbym Posted November 12, 2014 Administrators Posted November 12, 2014 Can not Christ as head of the church delegate leadership roles to those in his church? Did not Christ's servant Paul speak as a servant of Christ? On what basis are we to deny the inspiration of Cor 11;1-3? Cor 11:1 "Be ye followers of me even as I am also of Christ. 11:2 "Now I praise you brethren that ye remember me in all things and keep the ordinances as I delivered them to you" 11:3 "But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man and the head of Christ is God.. Is there not even a headship role in Heaven between the Father and the Son? There was a Bible study presented here in this forum when these scriptures came up before. in the verses speaking of "The head of every man is Christ... and the head of the woman is the man." aside from taking it literally and implying that Christ is not also the head of every woman... as He is head of the body of Christ. the study explained that this is speaking of Head as correlating to proceeds from. Christ proceeded to earth from His father, Human kind proceeded from Christ in Creation, and woman proceeded from Adam, as in being made from Adam as being from the same molecular organization of cells taken from His body. When Christ came from heaven He was of the same substance as God, and when eve cam from Adam she was of the same substance as Adam. when Christ became a man he became of the same substance also as man. and the Church coming into existence divinely by the indwelling presence of God proceeds from God and has the same substance, and so proceeds from Christ as being of the same Spirit as Christ. So Christ is the head or the source of man and the source of the Church. The Church reflects the substance of Christ, as the woman reflects the substance of the man. Quote deb Love awakens love. teresaq Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 Jon Paulien sees it as relationship. Leadership functions in the church, therefore, are substantively different from other kinds of organizations. Kephalē does not point to a hierarchy, so much as a relationship. As “head” Christ is the one who sustains the body and provides for its growth.”" http://revelation-armageddon.com/2014/10/headship-theology/ I am thinking Paul was thinking more of the unity, the oneness, expressed in John 17. Just as the body is one unit, God and Son (and HS) operate as if one unit. John 17:22 that they may be one, even as we are one. 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us Father and Son are one, act as if a unit. Jesus would have us act as one with each other, as if a unit. Jesus wants us to be one with Him and the Father, act as if a unit. So that has to be what is meant in the church it seems to me. That with Christ as our Head and we the body, that we act as if a unit, in harmony, as one. Johann 1 Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
teresaq Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 "Jesus would have us act as one with each other, as if a unit." Which has to apply to marriage as well.... 21 That they all may be one, 22 that they may be one Johann 1 Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
