Moderators LynnDel Posted November 1, 2014 Moderators Posted November 1, 2014 That's interesting about using fishing line, that deer won't try to jump something they can't see, and they are spooked by it. They can tear it down if they accidentally run into it at any speed, but if just walking along, it seems to keep them at bay. I didn't like the idea some had of stringing the line high above a regular fence, because it would just catch the deer mid-jump and could cause it to hurt itself and/or the fence below. I wouldn't want to be cruel to the critters. This idea seemed useful: "Ideally a line set at 6 inches (to catch their ankles) and 3 feet (to catch their chest) freaks them out and keeps them from being able to get around it.' I'd have to put up a short fence for the rabbits, and then the line for the deer. Something worth considering. Thanks! teresaq 1 Quote LD
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted November 1, 2014 Administrators Posted November 1, 2014 I will have to try that for our herd of deer. A few years ago we selected a number of new plants that were supposed to be deer resistant. They can't resist them. In fact they seem to prefer them over plants that are normally deer bait. teresaq 1 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Moderators Gerr Posted November 1, 2014 Moderators Posted November 1, 2014 For the last few years, my garden has been thrashed by deer and groundhog. I tried rotten eggs, cut hair, etc. etc. without success. A friend of mine mentioned electric fence by never got around to try it. I got desperate enough to try it this past summer, and it worked very well. Just string two wires, one about two inches off the ground, and the other about 3 - 3 1/2 ft high. This is connected to electricity - battery or from house current. Quote
