Pope says evolution, Big Bang are real

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis has waded into the controversial debate over the origins of human life, saying the big bang theory did not contradict the role of a divine creator, but even required it.

The pope was addressing the plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, which gathered Monday at the Vatican to discuss "Evolving Concepts of Nature."

"When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so," Francis said.

 

He went on to say many things, but let's not ignore this attack on Genesis.

 

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but it seems pretty amazing to me.

What did God say to Adam & Eve after they sinned?

 

Gen 3:19 "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return." 

 

Now Moses is referring to Adam's creation:

 

Gen 2:7  "the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

 

"His Holiness" states that God isn't a magician who can just call life into existence.  Therefore He must slowly do it through, you guessed it, evolution. In other words it would strain God's limited creative power to simply call Adam into existence.

 

Okay, so far we've read that God formed man from the dust of the ground. According to Moses this happened on the 6th day of creation. After the entrance of sin we read that man, when he dies, decays back to the earth.  

 

With these things in mind let's go to 1 Thess 4:16-17

 

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord."

 

Aren't the dead "dust"?  Have they not returned to the earth?

 

Now let's read 1 Cor 15:50-52

 

"Now I say this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable."

 

We are perishable, i.e., we return to dust - to the earth.  We are of "flesh & blood". This can't enter heaven because, 

 

1] It is perishable

 

2] It's polluted by iniquity 

 

So what does God do resurrection morning?  

 

Does He, in His limited power, evolve us from the dust of ground and eventually, billions and billions of years later, enter us into heaven?  

 

Well, "His Holiness" would probably say "yes", but the Bible says "no"!  Let's read it:

 

51 Behold, I tell you a mystery (magic ?   ); we will not all sleep (i.e., remain dead/compare John 1:12-14) but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

 

Now, is "in the twinkling of an eye" rather fast or is it billions and billions of years?

That's pretty fast, but I forgot, "His Holiness" said God couldn't do this because that's magic. 

 

So forget that exit from the graveyard to meet God in the clouds. It will take billion and billions of years to evolve you out of that hole.

Pope Francis' comments on creation/evolution echo those of John Paul and Benedict which take away all literal interpretation of Genesis, remove the 7 day creation, the Sabbath and the need for a Savior which has been displaced by church rites, sacraments and sacrificial actions.
