Sojourner Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Just wondering if there are SDA churches that have Stained Glass Windows or maybe they are known as Leadlight Windows overseas? I have never seen an SDA church that has them here in Australia, yet have only been in 4 different SDA buildings in that time. I know that they were rejected from the Lutheran church denomination because they opposed the idea. Yet what I do find is that in a number of Methodist, Anglican (Church of England/Episcopal, and Presbyterian churches here that they seem to have a number of very nice looking ones, often donated by founding members of those congregations 100+ years ago. I for one am somewhat of a fan of looking at christian art done on stained glass and made into windows. It is a skill that I would like to be able to do for myself one day! Gail 1 Quote

(just be prepared to get cuts on your hands) here's one I made quite some time ago...this was taken at night, so color isn't bright as it is during the daytime... Liz Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 My current church doesn't have any, but they would if someone would pay to have them installed. The sister church in town, had a beautiful stained glass window made, and they have moved that window twice now, with the buying and selling of different buildings. The AUC Church didn't have any if I recall correctly, but the church I attend right now does. Moderators Gerr Posted December 14, 2014 Moderators Posted December 14, 2014 In my previous church, we had one stained glass window that was more like a piece of art, with a picture of a vine with grapes, a field of grain and the Second Coming of Christ. This is located way above the platform. In my current church, we also have a window high above the platform that has a stained glass showing Jesus knocking at the door. I don't recall ever seeing one where all the windows have stained glass unless they are Catholic. Quote
Sojourner Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 That looks awesome Rudy, I would love to be able to do that in my own home! - Its been interesting looking into the history of this subject a little. Whilst I was under the impression it was led by Martin Luther, it appears that it was under King Henry when Catholicism fell during the Protestant Reformation in England that the bulk of the damage was done and that this then spread across Europe as the Reformation moved across. What is reported to have happened is that the Catholic church were given their marching orders out of England and the local population then ran in and smashed a number of the windows along with catholic iconography in the forms of Jesus on the cross and so forth and that over the years there was a strong movement against this type of thing. Yet over the years it has waned to the point where a number of Anglican churches have some of the best stained glass windows to look at. Quote
