Sojourner Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Greetings all, Just interested to know how many formal church services the church that you attend offers, and what times they are held and on what days are they held? Ours is 10am Saturday for the main Sabbath Service, this is followed by a Bible Study at 11:30 which goes for around an hour and we are usually finished up for 1pm. Quote

Then from 9:30-10:00 is our Sabbath School program. !0:00-10:45 is our Sabbath School Bible study. 11:00-till it's over is the Worship time. An hour before sunset is our AY and it lasts just an hour. On Wednesday nights at 7:00 is prayer meeting, and they usually have a children's program simultaneously. Then on the last Sunday of each month at 11:00 is a Women's Ministry Bible Study. I've also heard of SS classes where the members had the option of staying to continue discussions, even while the worship service was in progress.. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 23, 2015 Administrators Posted January 23, 2015 Another option for SS classes is having the discussion/study time for the whole SS time slot rather than a traditional SS program. It allows for more discussion time which usually gets more participation. It can cause some friction if the church still has a SS program and one or more SS classes forgo the program. JoeMo Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 One church I go to has Bible Study at 9:00am and worship service at 10:15. They say Bible Study instead of Sabbath School because we frequently have more non-SDA's than SDA's; and don't want to intimidate them with denominational language. The other church has Sabbath School at 9:00AM and worship at 10:30. I used to go to a church that had traditional Sabbath School and contemporary worship at 9:30; and contemporary Sabbath School and traditional worship at 11:00. It worked out pretty good until some of the "saints" started complaining about the racket (aka contemporary music) going on at the early service; so everything went back to the "traditional" way. Unfortunately, half of the church left to go elsewhere. Quote

The classes have a range of discussions--traditional, focused on Jesus, whatever the presenter of class wants to do. the we have classes focused on groups and what they want to do. In any case, there is no program, only individual classes that meet for whatever they do. Quote Gregory
Sojourner Posted January 24, 2015 Author Posted January 24, 2015 This is really interesting guys to hear the format of how things are done in different places. In my own case Sabbath School is after the church service, so the discussions are able to continue if people want to go on with a subject without having to be finished for people having to get back to the meeting for involvement. One thing that I notice is that no one so far has an actual church meeting at any other time other that Saturday morning. I have begun to ponder a little the merits of SDA churches having meetings on a Wednesday night (mid week church) or Friday evening which is also Sabbath. I think that establishing congregations like that could help with witnessing Christ to more people and provide more opportunities to share the gospel from our pulpits. Quote
