(please have a conversation about this with out the word Liberal Conservative Democrat Republican  Obama.)

While a lot of trash talking is 'out there'  let's talk about the good things,

I will start with 3

Grocery stores have a better selection of food overall.

Interstate highway system, and the numbering of it is great

Lots of choice of over the air TV in many places.

Three things....

Distinct seasons where I live in Maryland. By February/March I long for the temperature to warm up and it does. By August/September I long for the days to cool down and they do.

Diversity, Diversity, Diversity everywhere.

Americans are generally positive, upbeat, optimistic by nature. IMHO.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Pinching one of Lazarus', but I was thinking of it when I opened the thread.

I think America in general has a 'can do' spirit, a sense of opportunity and a willingness to roll up its sleeves and get to work to seize opportunity.

I also think it makes a huge range of fascinating media, from games and movies to music and podcasts. Not all of it is to my taste, and not everything that's to my taste is American, but there's so much of it and it's so diverse that there's lots of good stuff.

Truth is important

I love the public transportation to and in New York City and Philadelphia and Washington DC and Boston. Don't know enough about going to Boston yet but I only need to drive 2 hours of nice country driving and take the train to avoid the city traffic and parking problems.

Can find all sorts of international foods, including a Norwegian Deli, in New York City.

Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Sea World, Universal Studios.

There's no place like home...

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

My experience there is limited ...most impressed with the west Coast scenery...

but also the general friendliness and helpfulness of the people I met

I will add one negative,,,, I do not think the chocolate is as good as this side of the big ocean :)

I think the European chocolate is best, but I still have to give allegiance to my Hershey family once in awhile! :)

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Scenery like Sedona the Grand Canyon Yosemite Hawaii Niagara Falls the Smokies and Appalachians and New York Harbor.

Ideals like liberty justice religious freedom the pursuit of happiness. Wish they were better exemplified

museums good art and music and culture

And of course the food. One of the blessings being a land of many cultures has given us.

Someone once asked Yeltsin why he sided with democracy when he came into power after the military coup that overthrew Gorbachev. He said it was the grocery stores. He told of Russian cosmonauts coming here and being shown a grocery which they assumed was for . show. Later they were traveling and stopped at one at random with their hosts and realized others were similar. He wanted economic freedom for his people.

"As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17

"The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. Waggoner, The Glad Tidings

"Courage is being scared to death - and saddling up anyway" - John Wayne

"The person who pays an ounce of principle for a pound of popularity gets badly cheated" - Ronald Reagan

To see God's wonderful creation and imagine what it would've been like and how it will be restored.

Also all the wonderful man made wonders that God's children have created!

I have enjoyed all the responses.  They are all so true.    I would add to them social mobility.  In this country, one does not have to be defined by one's lineage or ancestry.

Honestly, I like the grocery store selection better in Quebec, Canada's Maxi grocery store when compared to most US grocery stores. But, here are some things I like about the United States:

Wegmans, although it's not in every state. It's the best grocery store ever, anywhere, and does top Maxi.

We do have a nice selection in our stores.

Shopping malls, especially the pretzels.

Amazon

Thrift stores

yard sales

Indian trading posts (When you can find them. They might be extinct by now.).

That you can find cuisine from various countries in different restuarants, including Americanized Chinese, Mexican, and Japanese.

Subs and other sandwiches.

Pizza

I'm sure there's more.

Blessings,

"as it was founded" is a telling part of your comment that I agree with. OTOH I heard a religious evangelist just yesterday (can't remember his name but probably on ADTV) pointing out that those of the Christian faith are more discriminated against than any other body of believers in the U.S., at present.

God is Love!  Jesus saves!

Lift Jesus up!!
