He gives u discernment! He reveals things to u about other people Now lets say... U see a PHONEY at church God revealed that to u! He did it for good reason HE wants u to know so u can empty yourself and be filled His His HOLY SPIRIT to minister! (all my examples may require Fasting and Prayer on their behalf) (and most can't be done in a foyer 10 minutes before Church) In His revealing that guy or gal is a PHONEY HE Calls you to go up to that person and love on them and if Invited in Relationship/Fellowship/Connection to reveal your own struggle with authenticity and sincerity U see a liar in church! others may not see it but U DO! He isn't fooling u! God is pointing u at that persons direction to Love on em show love and in Relationship/Fellowship/Transparency revealing own struggles with being honest with yourself and others and GOD U see a Homosexual in the midst! In your church U can tell they are GAY! sooo gay!!! in your church? looking so out of place and lookin .. umm.., So GAAAY! God is asking of u to seek them and love on em! and if so Invited into their inner Sanctum in Fellowship/Relationship/Transparency/Connection to share your struggles with a broken sexuality and victories and failings (all sexuality was broken at the Fall and restored on the CROSS) you see a person at church who knows a little too much about Sonny and Cher!they tell you they're getting a Divorce! ooops wrong era ok! you see a person that tells you about Lady GaGA and whatever she is doing now. God wants you to share in transparence/safe connection with all humility your struggle for the things of this world and Keeping your eye on JESUS sharing as an equal- at the Foot of The CROSS together. God doesn't reveal these things to u to talk about them to others or to pass judgement or to even hold against them and whatever the other struggles with you can be by their side and they may not be capable or even comfortable with talking about it that has to be respected.Just love on them anyways! and many times it is not your own experience but in pain or/and rejoicing about a friend or family in the same apparent struggles that you love very much and that love and concern transfers to another in your Sight. . what wisdom u have gleamed! and sometimes you find out (cause you have established a relationship and find out that's not the issue at all with them) Your projecting. Or simply wrong. oopsie . God wants you to be a little JESUS (CHRISTians) to them GOD reveals these things to HIS CHILDREN so u can win them over to GOD's SIDE in this Spiritual War To be part of the restorative process! And if they are what we perceive we are still not qualified to know what they need at the moment. But our need is at all times to walk in humility of mind towards all. We are called to not be bigots, and not see us and them, and not feel we are and they are not right with God. The truth is we are all wretched poor miserable and blind. And Jesus has been given to us and to everyone around us just the same. we are all equally in need at all times. Our salvation is not of ourselves. We are to show the same love and mercy and grace to the most responsible spiritual teacher as to the most ragged homeless desperado, because both need it. Or simply wrong. oopsie" Let me tell you where all this stem from I grew up in church (well..kinda grew up in) in a small SDA good old fashioned country church. We had all kinds of people and alot of self supporting ministerial people and followers came by trying to have their way etc. thru the years. They mistaken wholesome friendliness for easy to direct in their own ways of thinking We had the most godliest fiercest strong older ladies in our church. They all shared they had the Gift of Discernment. Sometimes to everyone they met. (the men were more more quiet about whar they thought- in general ..well more or less) ( err ...i hung around the old Ladies more) and Everyone was under their scrutiny that come by and it also made a messy spill all over the congregation. I was one of the charter members who saw the church from the beginning to end (still going on). None of the Godly old ladies agreed with one another. hmmm.. And it was corroding our church from the inside out I became one of the casualties years later, among so many. They were all self pointed sentinels cause of elements waxing and waning all about I loved these ladies.. I was in the INNER SACTUM of the church and heard everything about everybody else And as a kid and young man I thought that was what Being JESUS was to inspect fruit all the time and every time. when they came in and left to leave. It is with a great cry I scream they are judging not discerning one night in prayer ! I know the quotes the Ladies gave from the Word. I hung on every word. but what about the Spirit? I studied this matter out years later and found out what real discernment looks like. It is for them I write this a few could possibly be here and I am making a case in the Spirit of Christ on the Cross There are people who think they have discernment and people who do have discernment. You can only tell by following the fruit of their labor. and this Thread can open for discussion of this terribble problem in churches. Maybe my beloved church is the only one? I am spelling out how deeply we must be involved in peoples lives. "in connection and transparency and deep fellowship" you really get to know them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not just say 'I have discernment! that person is a PHONEY!"and leave. There is discernment and sentinels written in the Bible for us to be and to be respected and welcomed. but in my church.. in many cases the fruit it yielded was rotten. and my heart breaks I want be able to bring people to my church and have them thrive without jaundiced eyes looking at them. I could take it but they can't. It takes too much time and energy to seek to unravel any particular church plight because of a basic lack of love and a predominance of self righteousness. These are common in every circle of every kind when Jesus is not the center, whether it is a church, a mosque, or synagogue or a civic club or a volunteer organization, or an interdenominational prayer group. This is the bread of human devising, the leaven of the pharisees we are warned about already. Every action we make every word we speak is seed sown, and only Jesus can break up our ground, expel the bad seeds, and weed out the bad plants in our hearts, or anyone else's. The Spirit nourishes every good seed sown by the working of the grace and love of God in someones heart, no matter how heinous the story, or grievous the trauma. Thank-you for clarifying the weighty experience you had. It sounds like it was a real burden to you. I can trust Jesus to sort it all out for you. The Spirit only can sort this out in others. When I worked for the Conference I met so many ex SDA's who shared such stories ..some from my own personal church I was attending at the time and it weighed on me. in some cases I knew the people involved on the offending end.And they were great Godly people. All us christians have made profound mistakes in dealing with both newbies in our church as well as with the Pillars. We offend and don't even know it sometimes. Only Jesus loves and only Jesus is the source of the Spirit of forgiveness. And by a miracle of mercy and kindness, Jesus may love, and forgive through us. Somewhere i read that "it is the glory of man to forgive the offenses of another." The glory of God is His very character... and it is in the Character of God to give and forgive. Moderators Bravus Posted February 18, 2016 Moderators Posted February 18, 2016 To bring the discussion back around to the OP, I do think sometimes we get *overly* scared of 'judgement'. 'Good judgement' is a good thing, and as G@FC noted in the OP, is linked with the spiritual gift of discernment. It may have also been missed that the context was not condemnation but service and ministry. If our discernment tells us someone's faith is not authentic, seeking humbly to walk along with them and enhance their faith (and ours) is not the same thing as condemning them. Indeed, it's likely to be the opposite. It's possible to fool ourselves that we are experiencing the gift of discernment and instead by deceived by our own projections, and this ministry requires considerable humility.
