We are creatures of habit, the prospect of change can be very unnerving especially if we don't know or understand the new environment. I have a cousin who was a physician but has been retired for a number of years. His friend, and personal physical is now retiring and he is completely stressed over having to have a new young Doctor. It's an emotional reaction, not logical. A person in an abusive domestic situation is often scared to leave, they are not sure how they will survive alone and various other concerns. Liz Posted August 16, 2015 Posted August 16, 2015 The unknown is scary. It reminds me of the Indiana Jones movie, where he has to cross the invisible bridge. In his notes he has to "step out on faith". Which he does and then it shows the bridge. Had that been me, I would have been down on hands and knees and patting around with my hands trying to find the bridge. Anyways, the metaphor is that invisible bridge is our life, some of us stay safe on the ground that we can see, while others take the step of faith and embark on the unknown. We don't always know what will be the trigger, nor do we really want to think about it. But it will come. God is our only constant companion, so it's important to stay connected in a real way. Aliensanctuary Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Throughout life our brains create pathways upon which our thoughts travel. Eventually, those pathways become superhighways with limited entry and exit ramps. Once on the superhighway, our thoughts tend to stay there, cruising along, visiting our favorite places, thinking our favorite thoughts. Because of all of the traffic, it's often difficult to find an exit in order to try a new route. So it's all to easy to get stuck in a nice, safe rut instead of stepping on the gas to escape the mental prison we have created for ourselves. I'm sure most of us have the ability to change our minds or accept changes at work, church, or home, but sometimes those changes are not for the better, so we resist or complain.
