I imagine there are many who look at the America of today and see the rapid results of a nation turning their back on on their Creator. Fiction has always been the stronger draw. When it comes to conspiracies they tend to take on the absolute aura of truth among the believers and facts/truths become the false. The state did not own the land (the foundation of wealth in an agricultural economy) the individual did. Each person could build up as much capital as he was capable of doing. Most people never think of it that way because the Bible is not an economics textbook and thus does not call it capitalism, but that's exactly the way it was. Even the safety net God set up--the law of inheritance--was done through individuals for when someone had to sell himself, his family, or his land due to financial reverses the price was set by negotaition between the borrower and the lender, as individuals. What I called the law of inheritance is everything concerned with the Hebrew Biblical concept of ga'al and the year of Jubilee is a part of that. (I call it that because that is how Ellen White referred to it in her writings, and because it allowed all families to maintain their inherited capital.) It is part of the safety net set up by God so that financial disaster to one generation of a family did not impoverish the family from then on. While God gave the law the working of it took place between individuals. When someone had to sell himself, his family, his land, etc... to pay his bills the amount of time until the next year of Jubilee was taken into account on the amount of the financial transaction negotiated between the individuals. If so, you are accusing God of two things: promoting selfishness and being personally selfish. God quite clearly points out in the Bible that He has personal ownership of property and capital. I hear of case after case of people who are sidelined or marginalised for not towing the party line in origins. The film is only the tip of the iceberg. Slaughter of the Dissidents has more cases, and a number of egregious cases have occurred since that was printed.Why was Eric Hedin's course shut down?Why did the California Science Center withdraw permission for Darwin's Dilemma to be shown?There may be answers that satisfy people who like to think the discussion of origins is all above board, but can you find exceptions? Are there any universirties in the US where this issue is discussed to the satisfaction of both sides?There are lots of other examples of this sort of thing. I don't keep a mental list, but I have heard on podcasts a number of evolution skeptics say that if a creationist wants a career in science he needs to keep his beliefs to himself and learn to give the answers expected. otherwise the staff can make your career unpleasant or just fail you.
