Only in America would one be considered unwise when taking immediate possession of $49,566,294.92 instead of keeping the full $80 million over whatever stipulated time (perhaps 10 or 20 years). Has nothing to do with the present administration, laws for paying taxes are already in the books!!!!! If they change, than it has to do with all of those supposed ones that represent us, not just one person, party, etc. And why we want to make this political is beyond me!!!!! B/W Photodude Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 I would consider it to be a tragedy. 80 million dollars dropped in your lap would bring you a bunch of problems. There are problems that go well beyond all the new "friends" you will suddenly have or the relatives that will conspire to kill you to inherit your stash (It has happened). I used to play the lottery, not in any sense problematically, but I was wasting money. Money that could have legitimately really helped in furthering the gospel work. Thinking about it, I was dreaming of some way to suddenly have all my money problems solved. However, it occurred to me that I was depending on someone other that God for my needs. So, I quit playing the lottery. But I said to God, "you will need to be there for me if my numbers ever come up and I wasn't playing!" But in his way, the response was, "Quit looking at the winning numbers!" You can always imagine, "well, if I win, I will give a lot to church." Nice thought, but most winners don't do that. Another thing is, you shouldn't be doing God's work with the money of the people who could not afford it anyway. Think about it, overwhelmingly, it seems, lotteries are played by those who can't afford it. So, if someone says the poor get away with not paying taxes, they often don't since half or more of the pot goes to government projects. And even if you did take the high road and gave the money to the church, you have robbed someone else the opportunity to support the programs thru sacrifice and self denial. And I don't think lottery winnings would be blessed if actually given. So, every way you look at it, it is a losing proposition. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 8, 2015 Administrators Posted September 8, 2015 Considering how a lottery, or any other gambling venture, is funded, one has to be aware that every dollar the winner takes home is a dollar lost (wasted) by the millions of lottery losers. The only way gambling can work is for there to be a lot of losers spending money. Gambling simply exploits greed for quick easy money. And for it to work that greed has to work its mysterious work of shutting down logic and reason. The same way a con man can effectively scam people. After years of reviewing scams and victims stories of being scammed I have reached the conclusion that greed just makes a person stupid.
