jbal7 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Just speculating here, but do you think this means that on the other worlds God has made, He puts them through the same test as Adam and Eve had? If so this would mean that Satan has roamed to other worlds right? I thought he was bound to this one. Is this God's standard test for newly created beings Also, in a passage prior to this it talks about the angels using golden cards to pass in and out of heaven. Why would they need such things? Are there other beings trying to sneak in? Fyi, this is all just fun thinking. I can't wait to visit other worlds when Christ comes back. Btw, I haven't read all these chapters in full so if it explains itself later on forgive me, E. White wrote SO much stuff! "Then I saw two trees. One looked much like the tree of life in the city. The fruit of both looked beautiful, but of one they could not eat. They had power to eat of both, but were forbidden to eat of one. Then my attending angel said to me, “None in this place have tasted of the forbidden tree; but if they should eat, they would fall.” CET 98.1 Edited September 16, 2015 by jballew7 rudywoofs (Pam) 1 Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted September 16, 2015 Members Posted September 16, 2015 that whole chapter makes me wonder if Ellen White was being somewhat fanciful.. The idea that angels need "golden cards" to pass in and out of the Holy City as they travel to the earth, is weird. And the notion that Enoch goes about visiting other planets, wearing a crown, white wreath and a rainbow, is rather odd, as well.. the statement about the two trees (Tree of Life and Tree of Knowledge) being on other planets might be true... hard to know... but if they *do* exist on other planets, then what would become of them after Satan and his minions are destroyed? The "tempter" would be gone. Will we be able to eat of the Tree of Knowledge in heaven?? Interesting questions!! Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I think it says somewhere the trees were taken away, maybe after the cross. jbal7 1 Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.

Something which comes to mind is that Ellen White is simply relating what she saw. What she saw shouldn't necessarily be taken literally. We need to discern what's literal and what isn't, which often isn't so easy (consider all the debate over the 144,000 for example). jbal7 Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 They are interesting questions. Something which comes to mind is that Ellen White is simply relating what she saw. What she saw shouldn't necessarily be taken literally. We need to discern what's literal and what isn't, which often isn't so easy (consider all the debate over the 144,000 for example). but how can we discern what is or isn't literal? I mean I recognize that whatever she saw she had to describe in reference to what she had in her world at that time. Meaning, Adam might describe an airplane as a bird. Etc etc.. I'm okay just accepting that there are some details that we may never understand until we get to heaven. But I don't like picking a choosing what is literal and what's not. Who decides what is or isnt...what if we get it wrong. Anyways, I don't think these are salvation matters but I do like pondering them Quote
Stewart (SDA) Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 It is quite striking to me that God's first "test" for sinless people involved a literal tree. A literal TREE ! The concept that the final "test" in this world will involve a literal DAY should not surprise anyone professing Christianity. God's big tests are often very simple... not complicated. Stan 1 Quote

I mean, none of us have difficulties recognizing that for instance the Revelation is filled with symbolic imagery, so why should the visions of Ellen White be different in this respect? Her visions (especially the ones found in Early Writings) are filled with symbolic representations, things which would be utterly absurd if they were meant to be interpreted literally. On the other hand it's true that in some cases it can be difficult to understand if a passage is to be understood literally or symbolically. But then again, that's also the case when you look at certain biblical passages. Quote

Members phkrause Posted September 19, 2015 Members Posted September 19, 2015 If they are symbolic has anyone interpreted them? Yes!! Doug Batchelor, Steve Bohr, Steve Wohlberg, EGW, etc., etc. Shawn Boonstra, Lonnie Melashenko, these are just off the top of my head. All of them have pretty much the same interpretation. Also Jon Paulien, there are others! jbal7 1 Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
jbal7 Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Oh wow, I love batchelor. I'll check out the others too thank you Quote
