Habius Corpus is still suspended. The Federal Reserve purchased $4.5 trillion in mortgaged backed securities from 2008-14. A recent report suggests 90% of those killed in drone strikes were not the intended target. A big one for me was the TPP. When there is a bipartisan deal on something this big and it secret it makes me sit up. Lazarus, you've been my friend for lo these many years, here on C/A. But just how do you [or anyone else] think the president alone has the power to control mortgage backed securities, drone strikes, the TPP, etc., etc. In our democratic system the president only has power to present ideas; the congress is the body which makes the laws. We can't blame Obama for all the bad things which are present in our society. Tom Wetmore and Naomi 2 Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....

Moderators lazarus Posted March 23, 2016 Author Moderators Posted March 23, 2016 @Jeannieb43 I'm not saying that Obama is solely responsible but he certainly has power and influence as President. Obama gets the final word with drone strikes, Obama asked for fast track authority for TPP and got it from congress....how weird is that!!!! He has the advantage of the "bully pulpit" when it comes to other issues. Unfortunately, I think neither party works in the interests of the people. This is not because it the politicians are bad people but the corporations and various groups control the political system. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 24, 2016 Administrators Posted March 24, 2016 That Obama has continued a number of Bush policies and perhaps has not gone as far as many on the far left had hoped he would go demonstrates that he is more open minded and moderate than practically all of his critics on the right. They demonstrate their lack of credibility and their utter partisan zeal to undermine him and make him fail when they continue to characterize him as an extremist, a socialist, etc. phkrause and CoAspen 2 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." joeb Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Obama is a socialist. His father was a Marxist. His mother was too. His mother's parents, who raised him, were Marxists too. His Hawaiian mentor was such a dedicated Marxist he was on the FBI watch list. When he went to college he himself says that he surrounded himself with all the radicals he could find. Then he went to work as a "community organizer". That position comes straight out of socialist doctrine. There has been no public pivot point in which he has repudiated his radical background, and he has been preaching redistribution of wealth since he first ran for the Presidency, a greatly expanded centralized government, etc.... All of these things are socialist ideas. His first book gives a very good clue as to who he is in its title, "Dreams From My Father". What were his father's dreams? His father was Marxist, anti-colonialist, anti-Christian, and anti-white. He worked to bring those ideals to power until he died, so it's a pretty safe bet to say those ideas were his dreams. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 25, 2016 Administrators Posted March 25, 2016 My first reaction was, "His mother was a woman. Does that make Obama a woman? She got divorced. Does that mean Obama is doomed to have a failed marriage?" Reality check to the credibility of the fallacious logic - Both of my parents were life long conservative Republicans. I am not. A complete survey of my positions on the current issues in this political season shows that I am 94% in agreement with Bernie Sanders, 91% with the Green Party candidate, and 87% with Clinton. And barely measurably in agreement with most all of the Republican candidates on any issue. We grow up. We mature. We get educated and have our own thoughts and experiences. Tom. I like your generosity towards Obama. My opinion is more cynical. I think all those corporate contribution require a response that leads our leaders to act in the interests primarily of corporations rather than the people who elected them. I think Obama had to adjust his aspirations and dreams to deal with that. I think the people are waking up to that that's why Bernie and Trump are so popular. I'll bet you can point to the pivot point in your life where you rejected conservative ideas and fully endorsed socialism. There is no such point in Obama's life. He is still preaching socialist doctrine and using Alinsky's rules. He spent 20 years in Reverend Wrtght's church in which socialism is its main underpinning. You say that is meaningless? Obama was failing as a community organizer and couldn't figure out why. The black churches in Chicago wouldn't have anything to do with him. So, he asked a black pastor why. The pastor asked him if he was a member of any Christian church. He said no, so the pastor said he thought Obama needed to find a church he liked and join it. So, Obama began attending churches to see which one he was most comfortable in. He chose Jeremiah Wright's church and he stayed there until he ran for the Presidency. It was the beginning of him succeeding as a community organizer. So, where is his pivot point? Where did he turn against socialism? He never has. He still espouses its ideals and philisophy. All of what I posted above is to be found in documentaries on Obama's life if you care to actually learn the truth for yourself. I would say the credibility has reached critical mass!! Talk about fallacious reasoning.... Comparing mountains to political ideology. One exists with no human intervention. The other is purely human thought. It doesn't exist without humanity. I can point to every pivot point in my life. For every major change I've made in political philosophy, theology, etc... I can show how I experienced a change in thinking and why I did. This is true of every human being as it is nothing more than human nature. If we grow up in an environment where we are surrounded by certain ideas in our formative years, and then say we continued on that same path by deliberately surrounding ourselves with people who agreed with those same ideas, what does that say about us? That says our main lines of thought have remained consistent. Our ideas have stayed the same. When I decided to leave both drugs and the drug lifestyle behind I changed all my friends. I changed who I surrounded myself with. I changed my thinking. I went from very liberal politically toward much more conservative lines of thought. It was done both consciously and unconsciously, but looking back I can trace out the events and ideas that caused me to change. I wanted to spend time with those who had the same ideals, the same way of thinking, the same lifestyle. That's just what humans do when they leave their past behind them and forge into what is for them new frontiers. That you claim this isn't true just makes me look at you and roll my eyes. A good example of this is Donald Trump. I don't like him, but he's a good example of demonstrating a pivot point. He was for abortion most of his life. Then he held a baby in his arms whose mother had contemplated aborting that child. That experience changed his ideas and his life. He can point it out very clearly. This type of change, and by that I mean a major change in thinking, always has a pivot point. When someone cannot point out a pivot point it's highly unlikely that there has been any change in philosophy of life. Trump is also a good demonstration of the other side of the coin. He says he became a Christian but also says he's never done anything that he needs to confess as sin. That's very solid evidence that he is not a Christian as he obviously rejects the idea of a fallen nature and the necessity of repentance and reformation in the life. He cannot point to anything in his life that has changed since his supposed conversion to Christianity.
