I tried to find this video without the rhetoric, but I couldn't.

I do not know what all the posturing is about, but I find it blasphemous for the Pope to be referred to as "his holiness". I know Catholic dogma refers to the Pope as "the Vicar of Christ", so perhaps this is why he is referred to as "his holiness".

Or perhaps it because of the following:

"The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, he is Jesus Christ himself, hidden under the veil of flesh.” — Catholic National July 1895

If, as the above quote suggest, the Pope is Jesus under a veil of flesh, then yes I could see why he would be called "his holiness".

Of course as a Protestant I cannot accept this.

When GW was somebody, he used "his holiness" to refer to Pope John-Paul II and the Dalai Lama.

the titles for religious officials don't particularly bother me... they're just titles of respect.  George Bush used "his holiness" to address Pope John Paul because that was the correct way to address him.  What was he supposed to say — "Hey, Dude"?

what irritates me more are the familiarity words bandied about by Christians:  "Brother so and so", "Sister so and so", the "saints" in the church,  "mothers of Israel", "prophet" — those words (and others) are sometimes used with such indiscretion that they have been cheapened and the usages are basically nullified (in my mind).

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

http://www.catholic.com/quickquestions/why-is-the-pope-called-the-holy-father-instead-of-just-father

But Catholics aren't referring to a position when they address the Pope; they referring to a man.

If not, then let's start calling our pastors "Holy Father".  I think most SDA Pastors would be horrified.

the person holds a position...  If Pope John Paul hadn't been the Pope, he wouldn't have been addressed as such.

SDA pastors are sometimes called "Elder" out of respect.  I think that's weird, too, but who cares, when it's only a title of respect?

What about Land Lord?  Those who own Land are called Lords.

Mayors are "His Worship"

Judges are also Lords. "If it please thee My Lord" I provide this.....  whatever.

We call people Brother and Sister to sounds religious, and he that does the will of our father is our brother, BUT no where in the Bible does it say  "Give greetings to Brother Paul or Peter"  etc

Again, Catholics aren't referring to a position when they address the Pope; they are referring to a man whom they, not the Bible, proclaim to be the Vicar of Christ. Christ has no Vicar...Therefore the Pope's office isn't holy.

Jesus on calling men, good or holy:

Matt 19:16 And, behold, one (typically called the rich young ruler) came and said unto him, Good teaher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God

The RYR was addressing Christ, not as the Son of God, but a "Good" teacher, perhaps a teacher of the law?   The idea here is that the RYR is addressing Christ, whom he sees as teacher, as "good".  Jesus corrected him: "there is none good but one, that is, God"

Jesus had spiritual leaders in mind.  See Matt 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat....

Christ goes on to say:

8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

This is holiness:

Is 6:1 I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. 2 Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called out to another and said, “Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.”

Shades of the end times.

Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of Spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of Spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.—The Great Controversy, 588. {ChS 160.1}

The Last Act in the Drama

The substitution of the laws of men for the law of God, the exaltation, by merely human authority, of Sunday in place of the Bible Sabbath, is the last act in the drama. When this substitution becomes universal, God will reveal Himself. He will arise in His majesty to shake terribly the earth. He will come out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the world for their iniquity, and the earth shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.—Testimonies for the Church 7:141. {ChS 160.2}...
