Stan Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 If passed, SB 1146 is unconstitutional because the government is imposing a condition on religious institutions with the intent of pressuring them to compromise their religious beliefs. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted June 27, 2016 Members Posted June 27, 2016 sadly, I have a hunch that, should the bill be passed, the schools without the waiver (and that apparently includes all the SDA universities) will see an influx of litigation against them... bonnie Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Haven't those that oppose the LGBT agenda been reassured repeatedly that there isn't any intention of taking away religious freedoms from others? Their demands were harmless and really only fair. Many of their demands were met with approval by some SDA's in the interest of fairness and understanding. Rossw Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Bonnie, maybe that explains why the SDA colleges did not seek the "title 9" exemption? A sort of, "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine"? Quote

A sort of, "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine"? I think it is far more insidious than "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" from the LGBT community. The christian community has been bullied into scratching theirs with nothing in return. Now some seem surprised that it should lead to this Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 28, 2016 Moderators Posted June 28, 2016 In the quote below, Rossw asked: In order to fairly respond to what may be a valid question, Rossw should identify what "state money" is accepted by the colleges. Without that, a fair response to his question cannot be provided. E.G. Some colleges and entered into contracts to provide specific services to government agencies. Would Rossw suggest that such should be provided free of charge? Why are SDA colleges taking state money? Quote Gregory
Rossw Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Student financial aid, Greg. Or any other "aid" money provided by the state. If the state is paying for services provided by the school it should be the school who determines the criteria for the service provided. If the state doesn't like the criteria for our product or service they can shop somewhere else. We should not bend our morals for financial gain. Green Cochoa 1 Quote
Rossw Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I think the evaluation of the church's tax exempt status can get lumped into this same discussion. Should we maintain tax exemption with strings attached? I didn't intend to deviate the topic. My statement is merely to show a point. Quote

Um, I don't think you were supposed to remember that or the decades of previous assurances from our own RL dept. that all but guaranteed us that both traditional marriage and and our religious liberties would be protected if we made sure to not elect a conservative Republican. But don't hold your breath for any change in those same promises in the near future. Remember, the leaders of Judah were pretty confident that God would not let the Babylonians take their beautiful temple even 20 years after God had given them a second (and third) chance to change their ways. But you might smile the next time a professed Adventist assures you that no one will be forced to marry someone of the same sex, nor will any of our pastors be forced to officiate at a same sex marriage. doug yowell Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 Yep, really. Just like the legalizing of abortion doesn't force anyone to abort their baby. Quote
bonnie Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 doug, You probably are over reacting just a bit. If you remember the assurances that have been given ,here and publically. The LGBTQIAL agenda is only a question of fairness. It isn't catchy and certainly doesn't impact herertesexual marriages Society is changing and we will have to change with society. Not even sure if the biblical scholars will agree that a homosexual lifestyle is unbiblical. We need to lighten up on the subject, lest we be seen as homophobic bigots. The LGBTQIAL community will not rest until all their lifestyle is accepted as on par with herertesexual lifestyles. Puzzles me as to why now the SDA church seems concerned about this bill passing. Can they honestly say they didn't see this coming? Rossw 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
