bonnie Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Liberals Are Mad At Donald Trump For Handing Out Play-Doh In Louisiana Hannah Bleau (Red Dawn) August 20, 2016 12:16pm Donald Trump and his running mate Mike Pence recently visited Louisiana and handed out supplies to victims of the historic floods that soaked the state and left thousands of people displaced. There’s one photo circulating the web, showing Donald Trump handing out Play-Doh. Liberals are LOSING it, because it’s SO DUMB to give Play-Doh to kids who literally just lost everything. Obviously. They’re actually criticizing Donald Trump for showing up in Louisiana with an 18-wheeler truck full of supplies, giving kids toys and speaking to flood victims. They’re actually criticizing Trump for giving toys to children. Meanwhile, President Obama won’t get off the golf course, and Hillary Clinton is incapable of waking up from her nap. I guess Trump should’ve kicked back, relaxed and played a round of golf instead. Maybe then liberals would like him? Honestly, they’d criticize him either way. But now it’s bad to give toys to devastated children. In case you were wondering. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. For all the times Trump plants both feet firmly in mouth this is about the dumbest issue to criticise him on. Then there is this. Obama is much more likely to keep his private acts of kindness and generosity as just that - private. But I suspect Fox News respects that and never even mentions it at all. And then there is the serious evidence of charitable giving reported on the Obamas tax return just released. I don't think that's true at all. That is purely an excuse. It doesn't matter what the political pundits think of Obama in the face of a tragedy. If Obama would go down there it would show his compassion as a representation of leadership for the American people. If we compare the possible responses of Obama on if he goes to the south and shows his face down there but risks being accused of setting of a photo op. Or if he just doesn't go down at all. Me personally; I'd rather be accused of doing the photo op even though the true mission is compassion. Tom, what you are saying is Obama cares more for the politics of this situation than the reality of doing the right thing. bonnie Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 That is because the governmental response to Katrina, which was on Bush's watch and his responsibility, was a sustsained and truly unquestionable disaster in itself. Remember FEMA and Bush's props to the incompetent guy he put in charge of it? It was,but that wasn't the point. Many things that happened in Katrina rests with local and state government. The lack of ordering evacuation for so long and not providing transportation to help with evacuation. A lot full of school buses and the big worry was liability. I think it was a teenager that finally took a bus to remove those stranded Obama should not have gone initially but I wonder if he remembers how he ripped Bush for not going immediately. Thus far the Federal governmental response to this natural disaster, on Obama's watch, is going as it is supposed to. Obama showing up to hand out FEMA assistance would do nothing but create a photo op. And you know very well that no matter what he does publicly about it will be criticized and condemed far more than what you are on a rant in defense of Trump about. Then Obama should have cut Bush the same slack for not going right away because he was on vacation. I would bet the farm those receiving Trumps self promotion do not share you view. Do you really think Trump is a kind and generous person? Remember his generosity to Vets? How he had to be embarrassed into doing what he had bragged he would do in his attention grabbing fund raiser during the primaries? I have to rely on you and others that preach "Do Not Assume and Do not judge, to tell me what is in Trump's heart. Has he been generous with others in the past? Yes. Was he generous because he knew someday it would look good when he ran for the presidency? Don't know Frankly I don't care. My point was making a news story about the thoughtlessness of giving children toys at this time. That simply shows ignorance and worse Following the night of the massive tornado outbreak in MN,it was exactly that type of help that was most needed and appreciated. The Red Cross responded the next day, unfortunately it was in such a way it was several days before it could be utilized. We all received vouchers to go to Target and get two changes of clothes per family member, toiletries and yes those silly toys, one per child. Problem was we couldn't get there. Roads were blocked, our car had a tree thru the windshield. We needed help right then, not wait for FEMA to sort it all out. Without any preparation the state and communities overnight did a far superior job compared to FEMA. Those that had the common sense to understand IMMEDIATE needs were a god send. With all the criticism that can be leveled at Trump this is petty. Rossw 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 22, 2016 Members Posted August 22, 2016 I'm not an Obama fan, but I don't hate him. I remember when he came out to Oso, Washington, when that horrific mudslide happened that wiped out so many homes and lives. He didn't bring any "help" with him, but just the fact that he showed up was very heartening to the people of the Pacific Northwest. I don't think his purpose for doing that was a photo op, but maybe it was. Maybe Trump's motive was a photo op, but, again, I don't know....I can't read his mind. How about giving people credit for doing something good for others, no matter what one's opinion is of the politics of the person? The Democratic response of condemning Trump for bringing PlayDoh to children along with his thousands of other items smacks of desperation to find something "bad" to pin on Trump. The Dem PR team shot themselves in the foot with this one, imho. (And, of course, Trump's PR team makes plenty of stupid, desparate claims on Hillary, as well.) Rossw 1 Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. bonnie Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 It shows extreme arrogance and ignorance to nitpick and fault find with what Trump distributed. Those doing so claiming it should have been sustained help have never suddenly been homeless and two small children and another due in 6 weeks. Those carrying items as this because they could not drive to the worst destruction will never be forgotten. When you can't diaper your baby, and you have three walls of your foundation left that diaper, formula, bottle and toy is a welcome sight most thankfully never have to appreciate. I wish Trump would do a repeat. Hillary could go for a photo op and bring a truck load. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 Trump Gave Out Much More Than Play Doh In Louisiana by Jeff Dunetz | Aug 22, 2016 | Politics Trump Gave Out Much More Than Play Doh In Louisiana While trolling around twitter on Sunday evening, I noticed Samuel L. Jackson criticizing Donald Trump for passing out Play Doh: Samuel L. Jackson ✔ @SamuelLJackson Trump & Pence in La, passing out much needed supplies to victims of Flood. Where would Play Doh be on the list?! 12:46 PM - 20 Aug 2016 Jackson was one of many on twitter beating up on Trump for handing out Play Doh. Now I would normally be the last person to argue with the former head of S.H.I.E.L.D, and narrator of the children’s book “Go The F**k To Sleep” but just in case he was bitten by one of those snakes on that plane, I decided to check out the charge Monday morning just to double check. It is true that Trump sent an 18-wheeler full of supplies to meet him in Louisiana to hand out to the people whose lives were damaged by the flooding, and it is also true the truck contained some Play Doh. However, it is also true that Trump delivered much more than toys to the flood-ravaged people. As reported by Snopes: “a[n ABC News] video of Trump helping to unload a truck clearly shows that he donated much more than Play-Doh . Play-Doh, diapers, baby formula, various toys, cleaning supplies and socks can be seen” in the video. A CNN report (second video) added to the list saying the 18-wheeler Trump donated also had blankets and school supplies: Trump spent approximately 20-25 minutes inside the command center and asked a lot of questions, according to [St. Amant Fire Chief James E.] LeBlanc. He also donated a 18-wheeler full of supplies and expressed concern for residents, damage to homes, how much water was in the area and if any assistance had been given by the federal government. Not mentioned by Mr. Jackson but by others on Twitter was the mistaken reports that the Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards told Trump not to come, but as Governor Edwards told CNN the “don’t come” story was wrong. As a matter of fact Trump’s visit was very helpful. Therefore the video evidence shows Mr. Jackson’s tweet was very wrong. Allow me to suggest that before he tweets again he ask himself this question, “What’s in YOUR news reader?” Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 23, 2016 Administrators Posted August 23, 2016 @bonnie, are you ready to hand over the deed to the farm? Before betting the farm you might want to confirm that nobody in the flood region that received his very helpful lift of a box of play dough weren't among the first to blast him for his poser move for the cameras. Yes, mixed reactions of course. Yes, mixed reactions of course. But indeed there were victims of the floods that in fact voiced their displeasure at his coming down and playing at helping out. Nope, first I would like you to show me comments from those that were standing in line receiving blankets, formula, baby bottles, school supplies along with play dough or other toys for their kids that wished he had not come. Again it is total ignorance to claim it was playing at helping out. I don't care why he did it. When you are standing in the middle of total disaster and cannot even diaper your child or give them a bottle and someone, anyone gives those items to you, it is not playing to those that receive. If I would have been given a choice of a 100.00 bill or the diapers, water, and flashlight someone who was "playing at helping" gave me I would have taken the latter. You can't diaper your baby with cash,a lot of times you can't even get to a store to spend that cash.Cash is not a great substitute for fresh water either. This is a juvenile comment.......flood region that received his very helpful lift of a box of play dough Again anyone that dismisses the importance of toys for kids at a time like this is showing complete ignorance of what it is like for those with families that have lost everything.. Cash donations are certainly needed but it is not always first and foremost ,hands on with the ordinary items is about the most welcome sight to see. When we lost everything except three walls of the foundation with two babies and one due in six weeks ,those that came with items you and others are scorning were appreciated beyond what they or you will ever know. I think maybe when someone responds in a petty and juvenile manner they are either jealous or angry that not everyone sees things their way. What bothers you? The fact that Trump did this whatever his reason or that he got a bounce in the polls? That the receipents were grateful for some much needed items? Do you resent the flood victims from getting some much needed aid from someone you hate? Usually when someone mocks or ridicules someone else"s gift to others they think they could have done better What have you done personally, hands on for the flood victims. Not possibly writing a check but hands on to help them? Why do you resent their appreciation and gratitude for what they received? Rossw 1 Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 24, 2016 Administrators Posted August 24, 2016 I just thought this was the forum where outrageous unsubstantiated claims and hyperbolic propagandist rhetoric was the defining method of discourse.... Quite seriously, my statement was no more silly and stupid than many of the idiotic claims made in defense of Trump ad against Hilliary. The tone and substance of political rhetoric in this election cycle truly take LBJ supposed statement of political strategy to an all time low. As in war, truth is the first and most serious casualty. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." I just thought this was the forum where outrageous unsubstantiated claims and hyperbolic propagandist rhetoric was the defining method of discourse.... It seems more to diminish the actions of someone else. More in line with being a little upset that someone you hate is getting credit for something Quite seriously, my statement was no more silly and stupid than many of the idiotic claims made in defense of Trump ad against Hilliary. As this was not an ad this really is waaaaaaay of track. This was the news media making statements that were downright foolish and petty. I haven't seen any defense of any ads so far. The tone and substance of political rhetoric in this election cycle truly take LBJ supposed statement of political strategy to an all time low. As in war, truth is the first and most serious casualty. How did truth become a casualty? Or did you mean truth by the media was a casualty. The silliness of this news story by the media certainly can be called truth by only a "certain" segment of those reading it. Knowing there was far more than playdough in this semi that was portrayed as what Trump was delivering. They and you have showed complete ignorance of the situation and just how important a toy can be to a child that has lost his home and all they held dear. That and how crucial to the flood victims those non-sustainable items handed out were. I am not Trump fan, I am not even sure I will vote this year. The only thing I do know is I could never vote Hillary Clinton. I will say I am not as opposed to Trump as I was. I still have the same objections to him as I had initially and put little by way of faith and trust in what he says, but like a lot of people, the media and comments like this on the forum soften the personal dislike I had of this man. You are all bent out of shape because Trump received favorable press in some quarters for what he did. You have reserved the right to judge exactly why he did it. Not yours to do. I have no idea of his true motives. I did find it interesting that over 20 years ago he was doing the same kinds of acts of generosity when there wasn't any political benefit to him at all. Why did he fly a little three year old for medical care he desperately needed when no one else would? I don't know but assume that you have the inside track on that. Why did he pay off the mortgage for a family that not only were losing their home but had lost their father/husband to suicide? Don't know the answer to that either? Do you? You care,I don't care what his motives were. That is not between Trump and myself. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
