Trump win sparks student walkouts and protests across the U.S.: 'I expected better'

At Berkeley High School, about 1,500 students, or half of the entire student body, walked out of class before 9 a.m. in protest of Trump’s victory, Berkeley Unified School District officials said.

Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election sparked protests across the nation Wednesday, with crowds marching through city streets, rallying at college campuses and staging walkouts at schools in an open disavowal of the president-elect.

Students at several Bay Area high schools got up from their seats in the middle of class and filed out. A throng of more than 1,000 young protesters gathered on the steps of Los Angeles’ City Hall, burning a giant Trump head in effigy and blocking traffic along Spring and 1st streets.

 

 

“I expected better of my electorate,” Vishal Singh, 23, said in downtown L.A. late Wednesday. He said he was reeling in shock over the support for a man he saw as opposed to immigrants and LGBT rights. “I thought this country was different.”

Thousands of protesters blocked traffic in downtown Portland, Ore., Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia, with some torching flags. Demonstrators in Oakland smashed windows at five businesses and ignited trash containers and tires, police said.

Not pretty at all! I can't even imagine what would've happen had HC won! And if this old world should last another 4 years, to another election, I can't even imagine what will happen than! As I've mentioned before on many occasions, each 4 years it gets worse and worse.

I highly doubt such protests and trashing (as in Portland) would have occurred if Hillary had won...  perhaps I'm wrong, but I don't recall any Republican protests after Barack Obama was elected...

It wasn't that long ago that on this forum there was a belief that the behavior of Trump supporters reflected badly on Trump and he was the cause of it. Logic would dictate then that Hillary and the person she is the cause of this behavior

As it has been throughout the Obama presidency, blame all that is bad has been laid at his feet, it is now Trump's turn to be held responsible for whatever evil befalls our country.

On the other hand, Trump should not be too quick to take credit for what good may come, because Obama was given now credit for anything good that happened on his watch.

That is just the way it is, so just buck up Petunia!

I thought all the "bad" in Obama's presidency was blamed on George Bush...

Obama's favorite and predictable response was to blame Bush. Just as HC blamed everyone else for decades for her "persecution". Two bigger adult crybabies would be hard to find. Obama is still whining overseas,a little more subtle but not hard to catch. Bush at least showed class. Kept his mouth shut and didnt in anyway try to demean Obama as president. We will see if the democratic ex crybaby can show the same class. Maybe he can join those "mature" crybabies that needed coloring books and crayons for therapy along with therapy dogs to handle the election results.

Nor were coloring books,therapy dogs and counselors brought in for the "delicate" little snowflakes. Scary thought that some of these immature children are soon to enter a very adult,mature work force where they wont be given coloring books for therapy when the real world jumps up and smacks them upside the head
