GHansen Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Charles V at the Augsburg Confession, June, 1530 Quote
GHansen Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 "The great doctrine of justification by faith, so clearly taught by Luther, had been almost wholly lost sight of; and the Romish principle of trusting to good works for salvation, had taken its place" (GC 216). "The confession of their faith was read. In that august assembly [Augsburg 1530] the truths of the gospel were clearly set forth, and the errors of the papal church were pointed out. Well has that day been pronounced “the greatest day of the Reformation, and one of the most glorious in the history of Christianity and of mankind”" GC (176). Quote
GHansen Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 "At a meeting of the Moravian society in London a statement was read from Luther, describing the change which the Spirit of God works in the heart of the believer. As Wesley listened, faith was kindled in his soul. “I felt my heart strangely warmed,” he says. “I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for salvation: and an assurance was given me, that He had taken away my sins, even mine, and saved me from the law of sin and death.” Whitehead, Life of the Rev. John Wesley, page 52. Great Controversy, 218 Quote
