A manhunt is underway for a person suspected of committing a triple homicide. Authorities are searching for Travis Decker, 32, a former Army soldier with “extensive training” who is wanted for the kidnapping and murder of his children. Last Friday, the mother of his three daughters, ages 9, 8 and 5, reported that Decker had not returned them following a planned visit. His pickup truck was discovered, unoccupied, on Monday near a campground west of Leavenworth, Washington. The girls' bodies were found about 75 to 100 yards away from the vehicle, The Seattle Times reported. Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, shared details of the harrowing attack that left them critically injured. Around 2 a.m. last Saturday, the Hoffmans were asleep at home when they heard someone pounding on their front door who identified himself as a police officer. But when the couple and their adult daughter, Hope, opened the door, the man began shooting. The state senator lunged at the gunman and was shot nine times. When his wife tried to push the man and shut the door, she was shot eight times. Hope Hoffman managed to get the door closed and locked, then called 911. After undergoing several surgeries, John Hoffman is now in critical but stable condition; Yvette Hoffman is in stable condition as well. The gunman also shot and killed state Rep. Escaped inmates

Authorities have captured another inmate who escaped from a New Orleans jail on May 16. Antoine Massey, 33, a serial escapee who was most recently charged with vehicle theft and domestic abuse involving strangulation, was arrested Friday in a rental property just miles from the Orleans Justice Center where he and nine other inmates made their brazen getaway. In the weeks since they fled, the police have arrested nine of the fugitives. Derrick Groves, the last remaining escapee, is still on the run. Groves was convicted of killing two people in 2018 and later pleaded guilty to battery of a corrections officer. A House of Representatives intern, a rising senior at UMass Amherst, was fatally shot while walking in a busy part of Northwest D.C. on Monday night, Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kan.) announced. D.C. police said the intern — Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, 21, of Granby, Mass. — was apparently an innocent bystander caught in a spray of bullets intended for someone else, The Washington Post reports. Tarpinian-Jachym, who was majoring in finance with a minor in political science, joined Estes' office in June. "I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile," Estes said. The shooting happened downtown near the huge Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
