2025 Emmy Awards nominations highlights: ‘Severance’ and ‘The Studio’ top the list

The nominees for the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards were unveiled Tuesday. Actors Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song made the announcement at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre in Los Angeles, California, ahead of television’s 77th annual awards show.

The nominees for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced yesterday, with Apple TV+’s “Severance” leading the field with 27 nominations for its second season. HBO Max’s “The Penguin” garnered 24 nods, followed closely by “The White Lotus” and “The Studio,” with 23 nominations each. Streaming platforms continued their dominance, with HBO Max receiving 142 overall nominations—the most ever for the network—while Netflix earned 120.

 

In the acting categories, “Severance” received lead drama nominations for stars Adam Scott and Britt Lower, along with multiple supporting acting nods. “The Studio” picked up comedy acting nominations for Seth Rogen, Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, and Ike Barinholtz, along with recognition for writing and directing. Four of the six nominees for guest actor in a comedy series were recognized for playing themselves, with Martin Scorsese and Ron Howard receiving their first-ever acting Emmy nominations.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, were presented last night. The three-hour ceremony ended only three minutes overtime, after Bargatze challenged winners to keep speeches under 45 seconds.   HBO Max's "The Pitt" nabbed best drama and best actor in a drama (Noah Wyle)—two of the night's top awards. Apple TV+'s "The Studio" swept up a record-breaking 13 awards this year (including nine Creative Arts Emmys last week), the most wins by a comedy series in a single season. 78th Emmy Awards air tonight

The 78th Emmy Awards will celebrate the best in TV at its primetime ceremony this evening. The Television Academy has already handed out trophies over two nights, but the biggest honors are still to come. Medical drama “The Pitt,” produced in part by CNN’s parent company, leads this year’s field with 25 nominations, while the final season of “Hacks” follows with a record 24 nods. “Widow’s Bay,” meanwhile, has already picked up eight wins. Hosted by Mariska Hargitay, the ceremony will take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and air at 8 p.m. ET.

Television’s biggest night delivered several history-making wins on Monday. Apple TV’s “Widow’s Bay” capped a breakout debut with the Emmy for best comedy series, with Matthew Rhys also making history as the first man to win two lead actor categories in the same year. HBO Max’s “The Pitt” won the best drama series, the second year in a row the show has taken home the award. Its star, Noah Wyle, won lead actor, while Jean Smart extended her streak with a fifth consecutive win for her starring role in the comedy “Hacks.” The night also included a touching tribute to the late Dolly Parton, led by Sally Field and Reba McEntire.
