This year's Masters rejection.

Tons of golf fans learned this week they didn't win the Masters ticket lottery — an annual rejection that has become almost as much of a tradition as the tournament itself, Axios' Mike Szvetitz writes. About 2 million people apply for Masters tickets for each tournament day, with applicants having just a 0.55% chance — roughly 1 in 182 — of being selected, according to one estimate from Bookies.com. Those are better odds than being struck by lightning or winning the lottery.

The historic movie theater closed six years ago during the pandemic, and it's remained shuttered despite attempts to revive it. 🎥 The companies said in a statement: "The restoration will honor the landmark's distinctive aesthetic character, immersive large-format curved-screen presentation, and traditional concession experience that have made it a beloved destination for generations." The Washington Commanders are tapping into one of this year's buzziest food trends with sushi push pops, Axios D.C.'s Anna Spiegel writes. 😋 How it works: Think Push-Up ice cream from the '90s — except it's stuffed with sushi instead of sugar. A tube of soy sauce doubles as the stick, moving the roll up as you eat and seasoning each bite. 🐸 1 for the road: Georgia swamp joins icons

Photo: Megan Varner/Getty Images The latest UNESCO World Heritage site, joining iconic places like the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China and the Grand Canyon, is a swamp in Georgia — the 407,000-acre Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. "One of the South's last truly wild places, the Okefenokee is home to an astonishing array of wildlife, including black bears, red-cockaded woodpeckers and thousands of alligators. Its flora includes black gum trees and carnivorous plants with names such as hooded pitcher and golden trumpet," The Washington Post reports (gift link). 🌱 Why it matters: The swamp — one of the world's largest intact freshwater ecosystems — has faced threats from proposed mining projects for decades. As of yesterday, the Okefenokee is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its "outstanding universal value" to humanity, though the designation alone doesn't prevent future mining proposals. The Big Mac Index — a clever project from The Economist that compares prices of McDonald's burgers in different countries — is turning 40. The index was created in 1986 as a thought experiment and has remained a semi-serious fixture for the magazine. 💡 How it works: McDonald's makes the Big Mac in a near-identical way everywhere, so its price acts as a rough gauge of whether a currency is undervalued or overvalued. The caviar dog: A $100 "Golden Glizzy" with 30 grams of caviar and gold flakes — which Axios Miami's Sommer Brugal told you about in March — went viral at the Formula One Miami Grand Prix and Miami Open tennis tournament. The hot dog tower: Modeled after seafood towers, these multitier spreads of hot dogs and sauces are showing up at ski resorts, stadium suites and high-end taverns. Breckenridge Ski Resort's $60 version comes with six all-beef hot dogs and waffle fries.
