When there is a close death in the family, while there will always be pain and an empty part of the heart, there comes a day where the survivors get back to life, the spouse gets back to work or routine activities, the child gets ready for school the next day... One thing that is often overlooked about Beatlemania is that February 9, 1964 was only 9 weeks from the weekend of November 22, 1963. Clearly, the Beatles had talent, but also what lead to Beatlemania is that nearly everyone watched the Ed Sullivan show week after week. Their performance that night was the next big story, it was the night that caused America to get back to work, to school and to life. It was a huge healing for the country. Sadly, these kids needed to bear the responsibility for a nations healing, something that should not have been placed on people that young, but what the citizens of the United States needed to do. People who's lives do not have the memory of these two events have lost a very important, if not the most important legacy of the Beatles.

The Bible originally did not have the chapter and verse divisions. Hebrew linguists point out that Genesis seen as one message, and in a poetic form. It is the story of the Seed. This message can be understood as: The curse on the serpent, and being in the dust (death) And I will put enmity between you (the serpent) and the woman, between thy seed and her seed, and you will do one action which you plan to be a fatal attack to the Seed, but it will only end up being merely a wound, while that action will be how He (The Promised Seed) will destroy the sin problem. And to the woman (who is not cursed) you will have pain in childbirth. This is more than "labor pain" but after carrying the child for 9 months, the mother TENDS to have a special connection to the child that tends to be deeper than others can have. She will share deeper the joys and pain for her child, and living in a sinful world the pains will more than likely outdo the joys. Well, she can simply avoid this pain by not having a family; but the tendency of the woman would be to have desire for her husband, and the family, thus even with the pain there is still the female tendency to have the family. The fact that the man get's his talk later shows a cluelessness where men don't naturally have the same tendency to the wife and family as the mother has, even as they try and do have desire, but the male tendency is for this to be not as intense as the tendency in the women. So we get a picture of a very dysfunctional family. We are living in a sinful world, but there is the promise that the Promised Seed will resolve the sin problem. But the family will have a lot of pain, especially in the motherly joy and pain of the child's life, and that very likely, there will be something missing in her relationship with her husband. But the hope for this painfully dysfunctional family is the promised gospel, THE PROMISED SEED, that the Hebrew grammar (beyond my education level) connects the "He" in verse 16 as the exact same "He" as verse 15, that as mentioned, this is the story of "HE" How He deals with the serpent and the sin problem, and how He works with sinful fallen humanity. The only way to get through life on a fallen planet is for the woman, her children and her husband to allow "HE" the Promised Seed who will resolve the sin problem will lead us through if only we let Him rule over us. The Promised Seed is not some pie in the sky, way down in the future, hopefully, maybe.... but HE is already there! Right at the start of sin, there HE IS!

Years ago (1978/1979), Ethel Nelson interviewed Nathan Pritikin. and Dr. Denis Burkit. Dr.Burkit inspired John McDougall to adopt healthier eating and Pritikin ~started the modern WFPB eating movement. Pritikin believed EGW was inspired, even though he disagreed with her at times. The interviews are preserved in the Ministry magazine archives. Most of the people promoting WFPB eating are standing upon the shoulders of Pritikin. He said he had read extensively of her dietary counsel. Among the numerous things she had right is the no snacking/two meal a day plan. Modern physiology studies have identified a digestive process which is impaired by snacking. Known as the migrating motor complex, this process is a cycle that takes a few hours to complete. Snacking interrupts the cycle, causing it to reset. This results in food remaining in the digestive system longer than it should. Burkit discusses this in his interview. Known as transit time, food should pass through the digestive process uninterrupted. Some of these WFPB doctors advocate eating several times a day, even "grazing". Both these practices are harmful. They probably contribute to various digestive disorders. Overall, EGWs' dietary counsel is certainly among the best, if not the best eating plan there is, that I'm aware of.

Obituary for Les E. Stewart Les E. Stewart of Butternuts, NY passed away on October 29, 2026. He was born to Lydia M. Hellerud on October 1, 1964. His mother said that in giving birth that she dreamt about eagles and thus Les was always associated with an eagle. Les was also the grandson of Dagny E. Hellerud who, with Lydia, raised him in a bilingual English-Norwegian home in Masonville, NY. Leslie was a 1982 graduate of Bainbridge-Guilford Central School. He also attended Atlantic Union College, South Lancaster MA, and Broome Community College, Binghamton NY for his Associates degree. Les started Stewart Construction doing much of the work in refurbishing store locations in the Oneonta Mall, and to prepare homes for handicapped people with Springbrook, among other projects in the Oneonta and Norwich area. often working with his friend Tom Fisher. Les was also a landlord for residents in Norwich and Oneonta, Les was preceded in death by his Grandmother Dagny E. Hellerud and his Mother Lydia M. Hellerud. He is survived by brother Kevin Neidhardt Hellerud, sisters Lori E, Stewart and Dagny A. Brown, aunts and uncle, several cousins, a niece and nephews

Star Trek actor Walter Koenig, who played Russian navigator Ensign Pavel Chekov, has passed away. He was 90 years old. Walter Koenig passed away of natural causes, his family announced. Koenig was born in Chicago to Lithuanian Jewish immigrants. According to TMZ, Walter’s daughter and niece were by his side when he passed away in his North Hollywood home on Sunday. “Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too,” said fellow Star Trek actor George Takei. “Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course,” George Takei said. Gordon Pifher, former vice president for media ministries for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists (NAD), passed to his rest early Friday morning, October 9, 2026, after a brief illness. He was 79. Pifher spent more than 50 years in ministry in the Adventist Church, serving as a pastor, youth director, and administrator before retiring in October 2021 after seven years at the NAD. “Gordon was a tremendous colleague in ministry. He was a trailblazer for the NAD in that he was the first vice president for media after closing the Adventist Media Center in Thousand Oaks, California,” said G. Alexander Bryant, NAD president. “He was not only a colleague but a friend and a true Christian leader. We will miss him and look forward to seeing him again in the heaven and earth made new.” “Gordon was an amazing person and an extraordinary leader who was passionate about his Savior Jesus and able to make his faith in God attractive to others,” said David Jamieson, president of Upper Columbia Conference. Pifher was born and raised in Paris, Ontario, Canada, and began his denominational service in 1969 as a conference-sponsored seminary student in the Maritime Conference, where he later served as a pastor and assisted with evangelism. In December 1975, he moved to Ontario Conference, where his assignments included serving as associate pastor at Oshawa College Park Church in Ontario, chaplain for Kingsway College, and lead pastor at Bowmanville Church. Pifher then worked at Ontario Conference as youth director, helping develop Pathfinder and Adventurer youth and camp ministries until 1985. From 1979 to 1985, Pifher also directed Camp Frenda, where campers knew him as “GP.” His campfire stories, sometimes unfolding over several evenings, were a memorable part of camp life. He encouraged campers and staff to dedicate their lives to serving God and others. Pifher’s connection with the camp continued into retirement: In 2025, he returned for its staff alumni weekend, sharing a Sabbath message and offering a prayer of dedication for Pifher Point, a planned lookout tower and climbing wall named in his honor. He left the Ontario Conference in October 1985, moving to the Upper Columbia Conference (UCC), headquartered in Spokane, Washington, where he served as director of youth and Camp MiVoden for the conference before moving, in 1994, to what was then Walla Walla College Church as associate pastor for youth. From 1996 to 2005, Pifher served as the vice president for administration for UCC. In 2005, he was elected president of British Columbia Conference. Under his leadership, British Columbia became one of the fastest-growing conferences in North America. In 2011, Pifher accepted an invitation from the North Pacific Union Conference to serve as director of stewardship, leadership, and innovation. He began that assignment in January 2011. In October 2014, he was elected vice president for media ministries at the North American Division. There, Pifher was responsible for developing and implementing a media ministry strategy for all such ministries across a territory that included the United States, Canada, Bermuda, Guam, and Micronesia. As part of his work as NAD vice president, he served as president of Breath of Life, Faith for Today, It Is Written, Voice of Prophecy, La Voz de la Esperanza, Jesus 101, and LifeTalk Radio. Pifher joined the division during a significant transition for its media ministries as they relocated from the Adventist Media Center in Simi Valley, California, to different locations across the division. At his retirement celebration in May 2021, colleagues recalled his optimism, willingness to listen, and ability to encourage creative thinking through the changes. “Your passion for Jesus is infectious. It makes walking with Jesus attractive,” said Richard Parker, then human resources director for the media center, during the retirement tribute. After his retirement in 2021, Pifher and his wife, Marie, returned to the Northwest to be closer to their daughter Ginger. Pifher served on several boards in Upper Columbia Conference, including Renew Spokane and Shine 104.9 FM. He was an active member at Spokane South Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church before his passing. Pifher is survived by wife Marie and daughter Ginger. A celebration of life service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. PT on November 15, 2026, at Spokane Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spokane Valley, Washington. Pyung Duk “P. D.” Chun, first president of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) and longtime leader of the Church in Asia, passed away on October 3 at the age of 90. He devoted more than four decades of his life to the Seventh-day Adventist mission. Chun was born on October 10, 1936, in Hongseong, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. He began denominational service in 1960 as a teacher at Gwangsi Sahmyook Middle School and later served as a pastor and departmental director. He was ordained to the gospel ministry on January 1, 1966. Chun continued his education in the Philippines at the Adventist Institute of Advanced Studies, where he earned a master's degree in religion. After returning to Korea, he served as Education and Health director for the Korean Union Conference. He later served in leadership at the Korean Publishing House, commonly known as Sijosa. In 1982, Chun was elected president of the West Central Korean Conference. He was elected president of the Korean Union Conference in December 1983. After being elected secretary of the Far Eastern Division in 1988, Chun was elected its president in November 1992. As president, Chun led the Church through a historic period of organizational transition in Asia, during which the Far Eastern Division became the Asia-Pacific Division, later divided into the NSD and the Southern Asia-Pacific Division. Chun was the last president of the Far Eastern Division, the first and only president of the Asia-Pacific Division, and the first president of the NSD. His years as a division leader coincided with the growth of the 1,000 Missionary Movement, which mobilized young Adventists for cross-cultural missionary service. He also helped nurture the Pioneer Mission Movement and served as the first chair of its Management Committee. His service continued beyond retirement through contributions to the Adventist Review magazine, where he served as its international publishing manager. The Irpin Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Kyiv region of Ukraine was damaged during a 6am airstrike on October 19. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration has reported 17 people were injured, and one woman was killed during the attacks. Damages to the church include broken windows and window frames and cracks in the walls. Members of the local Baptist and Pentecostal Church assisted the Irpin Adventist Church in cleaning and clearing debris. City authorities provided special equipment to remove building debris and broken glass.
