When it comes to politics, there are books for the 'right' and 'left'..

The irony of it, only 2% of committed right or left people ever read the books from the 'other' side..

I think that is so wrooong.

When I was a ABC manger, (Adventist Book Center) I carried books on things like women's ordination, and I would have both sides on the same shelf.

Those on 'that' side were often upset that I carried books on 'that' side, after all didn't I believe in the Bible???

That is not that different than this forum, is it???

Stan ... I have tried to search myself to find out if I am the people you speak of. And I have determined that I read both sides. I read Joe Crews from cover to cover and then had a book burning because I didn't want anyone else to get ahold of such trash.

I do like to try to understand both sides. Sometimes I feel like it is a waste of time because it becomes so predictable. But, I do want to understand what the other side is feeling. So Some times I do it to understand. Sometimes I read it so I can better attack their positions. But usually when I have read what they believe it just seems like a waste of time. And I feel pretty empty especially if it is legalistic oriented.

I really had to laugh about you not believing in the Bible if you don't believe in THEIR way. Yes ... I see that all the time here on CA. A voice of moderation and acceptance is not accepted. After all why would you accept something that is not scriptural !!! I've tried many times to point out that we are all saved by Jesus and yet we have different interpretations. I've tried to say we are all lead by the Holy Spirit but are at different individual places. But, I've been told over and over that unless I see things and interpret things the way THEY do ... I am not of Christ and not following the TRUE Holy Spirit.

IT seems that the only TRUTH is to understand things the way THEY do. After all THEIR interpretation is of GOD and the BIBLE. And that is sad. It makes a discussion here almost impossible.

Personally I accept anyones belief and interpretation as good and fine. It is where they have been lead and where their individual lifes circumstances have taken them. God will lead us as we are able. He accepts each of us where we are. This idea that we have the Truth and all must believe as we do is just another way to judge and condemn another.

The sooner we can just love our fellow man instead of insisting that they believe as we do ... the better. This is why I wish our evangelstic outreach would focus on getting to know Christ instead of teaching doctrines. Once someone has accepted Christ and learned how to maintain a relationship ... all that high and mighty knowledge of doctrines will be made clear. But it is the love of God and the relationship that we need to hold onto. That is the most important CENTER of Christianity. And I don't think we spend enough time and energy on this while bringing people to Christ.

For all those that think that all our knowledge will save us ... I am happy for you. And I believe that God can even save you with this belief. But, I think we would all get to that intellectual peak a lot sooner if we weren't so busy pushing doctrine and instead pushed relationship.

If we showed love and acceptance of both sides of an issue ... the work of God would go faster.

I have three books in favor of women's ordination and I have three books opposed to it (four, if I count the Bible).

I like to be well versed .

Interesting that the Bible says it sees no difference in men or women, bondmen or freemen but that we are all one in Christ (in Galatians) that EGW talks about men and women who should prepare for the ministry and yet some people say it is wrong for a woman to be in ministry.

Oh well....sorry..I think that is derailing the conversation and I respect everyone regardless of their views on the topic. It is a hot topic.

I must admit I don't have too many "liberal" books in my home but I avoid those that are known to be extremely conservative too. I do however listen to liberal news and read liberal web sites. And I have actually changed my position on a number of issues as a result. I am only human so I am obviously subject to being mistaken about things so I find an open mind is a good thing to have.
