Rat Food

For by fire and by his sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the Lord.

For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory. (Isaiah 66:16-18)

People around the world need to hear the good, old Seventh-day Adventist message.

Oh, well. People here eat crabs, shrimps, pig, snakes, chicken.

People will eat anything. In NYC if you sold raccoon hemmoroids, deep-fried and dipped in butter garlic sauce, people would buy and eat them.

I am not certain of the purpose of this.

I have lived in Asia, and am well aware of the food products there that people eat.

By the way, I visited major food sales areas where dog meat was sold for human consumption, as well as other animal products.

People also eat the reproductive organs of fungii that grow in manure - also known as mushrooms

Many people scoff when they read Isaiah 66:16-18. They think it is obnoxious to belief that anyone would be eating mice and certainly mice meat cannot be compared to pork - the other white meat.

However God's Word places pork and mice meat in the same category.

In Malawi, where my daughter is, mice are a regular part of the diet. Guinea pigs are popular in another part of the world.

Basically the difference between "food" and "non-food" animals is based almost solely on one's childhood.

There is a lot more variation in the suitability for eating based on the environment and health of the animal than there is on the species. A healthy pig is much safer than a diseased sheep.

This is why SDA should quit worrying about the Levitical aspects of diet and start worrying about the actual health issues.

Bevin ... Do you believe that our bodies are the temple of the Lord? If so ... to what extent would you consider it spiritual for us to watch what we eat?

I agree that our diet is not an issue of Salvation except to the point of our ability to comprehend our God. But what value do you place on a healthy body?

May we be one so that the world may be won.

My theory is - each of us only gets one body!

Regardless of whether you are an atheist or an ultra-orthodox Jew, life will probably be better for you if you take care of it!

I would rather eat properly cooked pork from a healthy pig than ergot poisoned breakfast cereal...

Western Adventists pretty much encourage vegetarianism. However the majority of Adventists are in Africa and Latin America where they do only worry about the Levitical restrictions. I pray the influence of Adventist media such as the Esperanza channel has an impact on diet and lifestyle in these areas too.

In Malawi, where my daughter is, the locals need to be taught the healthy use of plant products - they are not growing and eating the appropriate plants for their climate and soil.

This is more important than a pig/sheep distinction.
