Notice the difference between Rutgers folks and the Amish...

?

The Amish had their own children murdered in cold blood and they forgave.

The Rutgers sportsmen get one quick comment directed their direction, and they are milking it for all they can get (with help from the media).

Amazing indeed,

I love how easily this turns into criticism of the young ladies who have been wronged. Its wierd thats exactly what happened on right wing talk radio today

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Forgiving is admirable but people also have to be held accountable.

well said.

A "minister" who spends their time showing people how to enagage in evil-for-evil, has forfeited any connection with God.

A true minister of Christ is known by their willingness to forgive (Ephesians 4:32).

As to accountability, that is designed to best function in the church. The church should pave the way for internal accountability and forgive those outside the church. Paul made it clear that God will judge those outside the church.

The misery merchants of Jackson & Sharpton, are doing just the opposite by trying to force those outside the church and giving a pass to their own moral failures. Jackson should have immediately stepped down from his 'Revrend" position after his affair. Immediately.

(This is the only choice that would be pleasing to the Lord. In true contrition, God would have found another place for him to serve.)

Yet by attacking people on the basis of self-centered race issues, they (we) are helping to slay the spirit of those outside the church who will shut the door to Christ. "The sins of the world's impenitence lies at the door of the church."

Only Jesus will set us free.

Rutgers is a state university so I wouldn't expect them to act like the Amish. If this had been a Christian university then a different pattern of behavior would be expected from them.

Jackson and Sharpton are political lobbiests more than members of the clergy. They are better compared the leaders of such organizations as Greenpeace, NRA, ACLU, or Interfaith. I don't see them as having much moral authority to speak on any moral issues. I actually heard Jackson once say that Christians shouldn't proselytize! Which is exactly contrary to the great commission given by Christ.

But I would bet you that if you asked those girls what religious persuasion they are, they would say, "Christian."

Hi Bishop. I come from seven generations of Amish/Anabaptists. I don't know this "diallo" situation. Does it somehow justify evil-for-evil?

If what you are describing about the violation of this person is true than it is wrong. It is also wrong to use that situation as a reason to hate.

all the best,

I think Olger has a good point. It is true that the Amish people have endured tragic losses, and other challenges. To my knowledge, they have done so without complaining. It is also true that American society is self-centered, 'me first,' and that political opportunists abound who will capitalize on perceived affronts, to advance their own agendas. As for the Amish, from what I have seen, they seem to be way closer in many ways to the vision for Christian living described in the Testimonies, and in the books Counsels to Teachers and Education, than either American society in general or Adventist churches and schools in general--which are, increasingly, more and more like the world.

In February 1999, four New York City policemen searching for a rape suspect knocked on Amadou Diallo's door to question him. When he came to the door he reached inside his jacket, at which point the officers shot at him 41 times, hitting him with 19 bullets. The object Diallo was reaching for turned out to be his wallet.
