The Addiction of Christ

Addictions start out small and grow larger as one needs to feed them. Regardless if we talk about drugs, sex, gambling, gossip or whichever. It normally starts out as something small or soft and grows bigger or harder and is like a monster that takes control of the person's life demanding more and more and more.

As I studied the life of Christ I see that He was addicted to helping people - if we can call that an addiction. Yet from my experience, when I help people it does give me a sort of high. And as a result I want to do more and more of it. I want to help more and more people. Now this can be dangerous if we start enabling people, and sad to say I have gone there. We don't want to create a dependency on us by others because then our short-term help ends up doing a long-term harm. However, properly done, helping other produces a high that cannot be found in drugs, alcohol, gambling or sinful sex.
