Rewarded for their lies?

I would like some thoughts on this passage, please:

"And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

20-"Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

21-"And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses." Exodus 1:19-21

Here we see that the Hebrew midwives, being commanded of Pharaoh to kill all male babies born, feared God and disregarded his command. They tell the king that it was the better health of the Hebrew women that caused them to give birth before the midwives arrived.

Did they even need to tell Pharaoh a lie? Notice the result of the midwives' actions

yes it was lies or a twisting of the truth!

The hebrew midwifes beleived God and obeyed HIM to the best of their ability.

We think they may have a had clear understanding of the 10 Comandments- but did they?

400 years away from the foundation of Joseph and the patriachs they needed to be schooled and they were after this.

Praise God He works with where we are at and blinks at our ignorance.

I agree with Parade. God blessed them for protecting His people, and for their concern. He took them where they were. As for lying, the Bible says that 'lying lips are an abomination to God.'

James 2:25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

Once again, Rahab was a heathen at the time. I would think that she was considered righteous for protecting God's people. In fact, the verse says that. The verse does not mention her lying as being considered righteous.
