Two curious things happened to me today after work. I went through mickey D's for lunch and my total was $3.23. As I pulled up to the window to pay I noticed that todays regular gas price at the station next door was $3.23.

Then when I was closer to home I stopped at a red light. The vehicle in front of me was a Batesville Casket delivery truck. For some strange reason I looked down and saw that my odometer had rolled to 100666.

At this point I think I will stay home all weekend.

While not having worked the formula, it was brought to my attention that EGW's (not sure which part of her life, married or unmarried) name in numeral form from the Latin

adds up to 666. Not knowing this to be one way or the other it still wouldn't bother my spiritual life as the evidence of the antichrist is in numerous different characteristics, only one of which is the number 666.

And besides, the number for our Father is One, as;

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD" Deuteronomy 6:4 KJV

"And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord" Mark 12:29 KJV

EGW's name adds up to 666 by exactly the same logic that one of the pope's titles allegedly does (although I've heard more recently that it's not a title the pope ever uses).

Vicarius Filii Dei (Vicar of the Son of God), if the letters that have Roman numeral equivalents are replaced with those numbers, is (the 'u' is represented as a 'v' because the Romans didn't use 'u' as far as I know, so it's actually 'Vicarivs')

V+I+C+I+V+I+L+I+I+D+I = 5+1+100+1+5+1+50+1+1+500+1 = 666

Ellen Govld White, if the W is counted as two 'v's, gives

L+L+V+L+D+V+V+I = 50+50+5+50+500+5+5+1 = 666

As for the pope's official name (which appears on his mitre, the tall hat, at least the one he wears at his coronation, as I recall) it is indeed 'Vicarivs Filii Dei' which means, 'Substitute Son of God' (as in 'vicarious parent.') That is indeed what he claims to be, and that official name is blasphemous, as Revelation so states. It is in Latin, which is the official language of the papacy. Thus, latin numerals are appropriate to use in determining the numerical value of that blasphemous official name.

By contrast, EGW's name is not blasphemous, the language she wrote in is English, and she does not fit the Biblical description of the head of the antichrist beast.

Aside from all that, the whole notion of some evilness being associated with the number 666 would seem quite superstitious. By that standard, perhaps people should avoid walking on cracks, and throw salt over their shoulders!

SOME people in TENNESSEE have changed their phone numbers

and their car tag plates because they had 3 6 s on them

also about 3 years back I WENT TO different gas stations

and put $ 6.66 6 dollars and 66 cents in y gas tank

and most of them only charged me $6.65 6 dollars and 65

cents because they did not want 3 6 s in their cash registar.

I have to confess that I was one of those. I got a license plate with the numbers 666 .... and I returned it. They fully understood.

Ronald Wilson Reagan = 666

six letters in each world

Too bad he died before he could pass the Sunday laws.

Yes .... but what he did was to establish a nation wide religion. The Catholic Church is the ONLY church recognized by the United States. And Reagan was the one who established relations with the Vatican in order to do this.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

If the Adventist Church bought huge amounts of property somewhere and declared that area a separate country and set up a government, maybe we'd be recognized and have an ambassador from the U.S.!

Good point indeed, Neil. My understanding about the triple crown had been that the name is inscribed on it. However, I must confess that I didn't thoroughly dig for myself. At any rate, the 'blasphemous name' appears on the seven heads of the best. The beast is symbolic. Just as we wouldn't go looking for an obvious literal mark of the beast, so we might not go looking for such a literal title. At any rate, the source you quoted is 'Wikipedia,' which is not an authoritative source. The articles are provided by whomever submits them. Often they reflect the biases of the authors.

However, the title, the office, the authority is very definitely claimed by the pope. He claims to be an alter Christus, God in the flesh. That title is, indeed so claimed, and is the source of two interesting details. First, the pope's reference to himself in the plural, "We," and second, the claim to infallibility for statements and actions which are 'ex cathedra.'

My thought wasnt just about 666, but it was the 666 rolling at just the same time I was behind the CASKET truck.

I don't know Dave, for such a determined seeker of truth you seem pretty determined to hang on to this old fib.

In showing the numbers for Ellen White, I certainly wasn't saying she was the Beast, but that with that kind of ad hoc numerical game where the rules are made up, you can project it onto just about anything or anyone.

Fib? Fib?????? I beg your pardon!!! Have you done the research I have done? The TITLE is not a fib. Its appearance on the guy's hat is a separate issue. The numerical value of that title is not a fib. You had better be prepared to back up those strong words!

A point perhaps worthy of consideration might be the need to change our direction for the purpose of avoiding erroneous perception, especially when there is little to be gained by purposely taunting powers that can instigate difficulties, all in the name of freedom.

"For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love." Gal 5:13 NLT

Um, I was at church, hence the lack of a timely reply.

The Wikipedia article stated that the title being used by the Pope at all was a Protestant fib. I now have a little more time to dig on more reputable sources than Wikipedia, and will post the results below. But if it turns out that this is a title never used by the pope, then what it adds up to is completely irrelevant, yes?

Went to the hassle of signing up for the free trial of Britannica, which I think we can agree is pretty unimpeachable. The following is from the article on 'arithmomancy' (my emphasis):

Quote:
The best-known instance of numerology is the “number of the beast,” 666, from the biblical Revelation to John (13:18). Curiously, Revelation is the 66th book in the Bible, and the number of the beast occurs in verse 18, which is 6 + 6 + 6. But who is the beast? Carlyle Hynes, a Seventh-day Adventist, added up the Roman numerals in the phrase Vicarius Filii Dei (“Vicar of the Son of God,” a title falsely ascribed to the Pope) and omitted all the other letters (that is, I = 1, V = 5, L = 50, C = 100, D = 500) and got 666, proving that the beast is the Roman Catholic Church. On the other hand, the same method applied to the name Ellen Gould White, the founder of Seventh-day Adventism, also yields 666 provided the W counts as two V's. Hitler sums to 666 if one uses the code A = 100, B = 101, and so on. Two 16th-century numerologists were Michael Stifel and Peter Bungus. Stifel decoded 666 as Pope Leo X, Bungus as Martin Luther. Not coincidentally, Stifel was a Protestant theologian and Bungus a Catholic.

I, too, googled on vicarius filii dei. It was not so much the several sites that interested me, it was the documentation which I found in the process. Took a bit of digging, though. And, I still need to verify a few things. However, the title as it reads does appear to have been applied to the popes historically, particularly at the time of their coronation, when the one placing the crown on the pope's head is reputed to have uttered the words. At this point, I would recognize the possibility of spin put out by the Catholic sources, and potentially by the contributor to Wikipedia. As well, the possibility of spin by the other side. So, the process has just begun, for me. Will report as more becomes clear.

One harrassed Catholic scholar, under duress and under false pretences... not exactly a firm foundation on which to build a massive doctrinal edifice.

Interesting.... I wonder...since the catholic church recognises the title unoffically, does that mean OFFICALLY, all catholics think of the pope as a subsititute for Christ? It appears so....

That is, indeed, exactly how the pope, and the church teachings, portray him to be. Check Cardinal Ratzinger's Catechism, 1996 publication date, for comparison. The pope does claim to be God on earth, and is referred to as 'alter Christus.'

Well, true, if you took all the verbal titles....but as one person I know says, "tain't so if it's verbal. Need something written down. " And I have yet to see some tiara or Miter hat that says those famous latin words...Christ's substitute.
