Dr. Shane Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Joe Biden, a Democratic senator that voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq was on NBC's Meet The Press this morning trying to have it both ways. When asked why he voted to support the war, Biden did an excellent job of defending his vote. He even mentioned something I had not heard before. He said he knew Saddam had WMDs because the weapons inspectors had found them and inventoried them but that Saddam had not weaponized them. That is, he had no way to deliver them. He went on to say that he spoke with everyone at the CIA about it. He believed Saddam wanted a nuclear weapon and would have bought one if the sanctions had been lifted. He also stated he was very concerned that many of the European powers would be successful in getting the sanctions lifted. He also stated that intelligence believed there were Iraqi generals ready to step in and take over when Saddam was out so the insurgency wasn't expected. Then as the line of questioning turned to why he has been so critical of the Bush Administration, Biden turned on the spin machine. He actually said the Bush Administration misled him by not providing all the intelligence. This he said AFTER he had said he spoke with everyone at the CIA about it! He then went into the talking points that his vote for the authorization to use force wasn't a vote for the war because he didn't believe the President would use the authorization to go to war. He actually said that his vote for the war was actually a vote against the war! It seems to me all this double-talk is because he is seeking the 2008 presidential nomination, he is low in the polls, and the anti-war Left has incredible power in his party.
