The Oppression of the people

All of us have only 24 hours in a day...

Christ self proclaimed mission was to free the oppressed. (That can interpreted many ways.)

How many hours a day or a weak can we really help that? There must be thousands of situations that we could do something.

What would get us out of our comfort zone to take on such challanges?

What if..... this.. and what if.... that..... ?

BUT I enjoy sitting at home every evening and doing...... this or that...

I call it "being God's agents of mercy" on earth, working with Him to do that, free the oppressed.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to speak to a bunch of college kids about this subject. My take is that we "preach the Gospel to the poor" "heal the broken hearted" "set the captives free" "recover the sight of the blind" (Luke 4:18-19) in the every day activity of our lives. On the train station platform, at the store, in the park God can lead us to profound encounters with people that can have a real impact on their lives. This is how Jesus did ministry. He sat around, had dinner with people, walked the streets, asked questions.

The starting point may be "the Spirit of the Lord is upon me" (the start of Luke 4:18). Perhaps the awareness, the patience, the boldness, the insight to minister in this way comes from the Spirit.
