Moderators lazarus Posted May 10, 2007 Moderators Posted May 10, 2007 Tony Blair has announced he will stand down as prime minister on 27 June. He made the announcement in a speech to party activists in his Sedgefield constituency, after earlier briefing the Cabinet on his plans. He acknowledged his government had not always lived up to high expectations but said he had been very lucky to lead "the greatest nation on earth". Its weired how every nation says their the greatest nation. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6639945.stm Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
bevin Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 Not every nation says this, but they all find something that they are happy with about themselves. Blair has lead England through a period of time when it has clearly slumped from being a major power to being an insignificant island off the coast of France that happens to have nuclear weapons through an accident of history. The USA is just starting down a similar slump - from being the dominant power to being one of several co-equals. Within a few years China, India, and various other coalitions will be economically stronger and militarily equal. /Bevin Quote
