aldona Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 This story was in yesterday's newspaper. Caulfield is a suburb of Melbourne that has a very large Jewish community. Most football in Melbourne takes place on Saturdays, but there is a group of (mostly Jewish) youth who don't participate in the regular scheduled games because of their religion, and meet on Sundays to have their own unofficial games at a public sports ground in Caulfield. They have just been fined by the local authorities for playing their games without a proper permit. Read the story here What do you think? Should an informal group of friends have to have a permit to play football on a public oval? When they described the group as "predominantly Jewish", I wondered whether there were any Adventist youth among them. There are a few well-established SDA churches within a few miles of Caulfield (Oakleigh, Hughesdale and Glenhuntly are just a few that come to mind). I wonder if I should write a letter to the editor of the paper in support of our fellow Sabbath-keepers. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? bevin Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 The council did not fine them for their choice of day, the fine was for not having a permit. They should apply for a permit. /Bevin Quote

Now if the others that do get together on the sabbath have a permit than I beieve that is best that they do apply for a permit. pkrause Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
