Stan Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Vancouver is 'best place to live' Canadians have a lot to toast in terms of liveability, the EIU reckons Vancouver is the world's best place to live, a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has found. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4306936.stm Some place called 'Melbourne' came in second. Moderators lazarus Posted May 28, 2007 Moderators Posted May 28, 2007 I've often heard that Canada is a cross between the US and UK. Any truth there? Never been to Canada. Some of my UK friends moved to Canada rather than live in the US. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Amelia Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I've been there Laz and yeah they are. Amelia Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Hey, that article only mentioned one US city, L.A. and that to me is one of the worst. Administrators Gail Posted May 28, 2007 Administrators Posted May 28, 2007 And I say, Again? LOL I love Vancouver- was born in a suburb but raised there and lived there when I was first married. I like the people and it's nice to have beaches and mountains Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Neil D Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Vancouver is 'best place to live'...Some place called 'Melbourne' came in second. Eeeeh, just some jealous persons who are promoting thier part of the world.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Stan Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 If you go North of Vancouver to Whistler, you will meet a lot of young people working there, who speak like they are from some foreign country, they try to drive on the 'wrong' side of the road, and always talking about something called Marmite.. Administrators Gail Posted May 28, 2007 Administrators Posted May 28, 2007 Scads of them! I think they know a good thing- word does get around :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
David Koot Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Hmmmmmmm . . . sounds to me like wishful thinking. There is simply no place like . . . Carmel-by-the-Sea, or Escondido, or San Clemente, or Tiburon . . . the list goes on and on. California is THE place to be. Here, we have beautiful weather, wonderful scenic attractions, and MAHVLUS people! Eat your heart out, everyone else! Dave Quote
Planey Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I trust the judgment of people who have lived there, Vancouver sounds just great!!! ...But on the other hand, what is the credibility of any survey that would put Melbourne second??? Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Amelia Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Actually I've been to Vancouver BC a few times and it is a great city. And I'll probably get bit for this but it reminds me of Portland, my home town. Except we don't have a red light district. LOL Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Administrators Gail Posted May 28, 2007 Administrators Posted May 28, 2007 Red light district? Used to be Davie St. but things have changed so much over the years... There is still what they call the Downtown EastSide where protests for homeless people are at times. Developers have been, well, developing, and forcing many homeless people out of their cheap rented rooms. It's been an ongoing problem for many years. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 28, 2007 Administrators Posted May 28, 2007 One part that they've really fixed up is what we call Yaletown. It used to be the scungy warehouse part of the city but now is where you find trendy condos and art galleries. Also False Creek has improved a LOT since I remember! My dad used to take us kids down to the docks to watch what was being unloaded from the ships. Those were fun times Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Amelia Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 LOL Shows you how long its been since my last visit.
