I know, I know, Clinton did the same thing and just got his hands slapped. Well, in all candor, Clinton was trying to obstruct justice of a woman (trailer-court trash really) that had accused him of exposing himself to her and asking for oral favors and Libby was lying about issues of national security. So while I by no means condone the completely reprehensible behavior of our former President, it doesn't seem to be as bad as Libby's offense. Yes, yes, don't worry. I am not turning soft. I still believe Clinton should have done the honorable thing and resigned. Just making the point that if one needed to be punished more than the other I think it is Libby.

Libby Sentenced to 2 1/2 Years in Prison

Quote:
Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison Tuesday for lying and obstructing the CIA leak investigation.

Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, stood calmly before a packed courtroom as a federal judge said the evidence overwhelmingly proved his guilt and left the courthouse without commenting.

"People who occupy these types of positions, where they have the welfare and security of nation in their hands, have a special obligation to not do anything that might create a problem," U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton said.

Walton did not set a date for Libby to report to prison. Though he saw no reason to let Libby remain free pending appeal, Walton said he would accept written arguments on the issue and rule later.

If that happens it will be after the next President is elected. There is a tradition that on his last day in office the President pardons a long list of people. A dirty little secret is that Clinton pardoned some terrorists on his last day in office. Not to worry, they weren't Islamic fundamentalists.
