The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein

Planey Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 A question kind of related to this: Why is Colin Powell not a candidate for the Presidency in 2008? From this distance he would seem to be a more than viable option. Graeme Quote Graeme____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Dr. Shane Posted June 11, 2007 Posted June 11, 2007 Quote: Powell also sounded off on conservatives, including Vice President Cheney, who oppose diplomacy with Syria and Iran, calling their view “short-sighted.” Powell endorsed direct talks “not to solve a particular problem or crisis of the moment or the day, but just to have dialogue with people who are involved in this region in so many ways.” I have been saying this for some time. Quote: “[W]e have shaken the belief that the world had in America’s justice system by keeping a place like Guantanamo open… We don’t need it, and it’s causing us far more damage than any good we get for it.” I have defended America's right of operate Guantanamo but I have held back on saying whether it was a good or bad idea. That is because I am not privileged to the intelligence gained by the interpretations there. I have maintained that there should be judicial review over the operations there. Powell's opinion weighs a little more with me since he has been privileged to secret information. However I am still hesitant to jump on any bandwagon. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
