Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted June 15, 2007 Members Posted June 15, 2007 This is a video of a young man from Wales who sells car phones for a living. Listen to him sing on a British talent show: Great voice!!!!! Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Moderators lazarus Posted June 15, 2007 Moderators Posted June 15, 2007 Thats fantastic! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. David Koot Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 That actually brought tears to my eyes... these things normally leave me unmoved, but that's amazing. I must ditto what Bravus said here. Absolutely unbelievable. The world-class tenors I have heard, did not sing it with as much 'brio' as this young man. The second time around, I noticed some areas to 'fine-tune' with formal training, but the spirit of his performance was absolutely amazing. I was left hoping for a few encores. Actually, I want to try to copy the video to my hard-drive and replay it often. Inspiring. Quote
puddles Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Ok, he IS amazing but even more so to me is that my husband who NEVER pays any attention to what I'm doing (or watching/listening) perked up (from across the room mind you!) and said "WHO is that, he's incredible!!!" so, that guy is good cos my db said so...lol (psst...he just commented "I don't like opera and I liked that guy!" lololol) Quote
Halfstep-Denise Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 I saw this video clip for the first time on Good Morning America this morning. He had the three hosts of GMA amazed! I was then and am now! By the way, did you also view the YouTube clip of him singing "Time To Say Goodbye"? WOW!!!! I have to find out if he wins the competition! Remember the name "Paul Potts"! He has a spectacular voice! David Koot Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Hi D, no I didnt know about that number. Is there a link to it? I would be interested in seeing/hearing him again. Dave Quote

David Koot Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Honestly, after listening to Mr. Potts' rendition of Nessun Dorma several more times, I feel that he blows away anyone else out there in recent decades. This is a voice for the ages. I am absolutely dumbfounded. I will enjoy listening to this clip again and again and again. Ahhh. I wish to edit this post. I went back to the video clip, and found that someone had added on there clips of Pavarotti and Placido Domingo. I listened to both of them, which I had heard before. That confirmed it. While Pavarotti has more raw volume, and Placido Domingo has a 'silvery' tone, Mr. Potts blows them both away, in terms of the quality of his voice and the pathos of his performance. I find this hard to believe, but think it true. His voice is of the caliber of the great Caruso. This is unbelievable. Quote
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted June 17, 2007 Moderators Posted June 17, 2007 Pavarotti and Placido Domingo reveal their professionalism by the use of dynamics. Shading... some parts extremely soft, other sections louder and more emotional. Some sections slow, others fast. Also the breath control -- carrying the tone through phrase endings instead of taking breaths so often -- is another sign of a professionally trained voice. But I agree. Mr. Potts has a natural tenor which sounds gorgeous. With a little training he should really go places. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
David Koot Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 yes, without a question. And, on the final note, Mr. Potts broke in the middle. He does need a bit of training. But the quality of his voice is what truly impressed me. Quote
Amelia Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 As Mr Potts moves forward in the competition he will be required to sing in other genres of music. I have heard operatic voices try to sing contemporary music. It doesn't translate at all well. Halfstep-Denise Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Did anyone else see and hear Paul Potts on the Today Show this morning?
