Neil D Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 My main concern with a concrete home is that it holds mold within the walls. More than once have I ran into people who have concrete homes with alergys to mold and such... Do you have any way of preventing mold when building a concrete home, Shane? Dr. Shane Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Actually, I do not believe that mold will grow on concrete. Next to structural stability, mold is our greatest concern in building construction. Mold needs moisture and a carbon based substance in order to grow. If a concrete home does not have proper ventilation it may "sweat", that is, it may have issues with condensation. Thus the moisture side of the equation is satisfied. Homes are filled with organic substances, including dirt and dust that blows in and is tracked in. So a concrete home that has condensation problems is likely to have mold issues. The solution is to get a proper heating, cooling and ventilation system. In Mexico, most of the upper lower class and middle class live in concrete homes. Most do not have air conditioning and simply ventilate the home with fans and open windows which itself will eliminate condensation issues. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
