darlene Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 In January I went for a trip and left my car in airport parking. When I returned I paid the parking fee in a machine and received 10 $1 coins. I didn't know they had $1 coins in the US and thought they were fake. (Still have them) Canada has had loonies for almost 10 years. Quote
Amelia Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Those must be the Sacagawea gold dollar coins. Pretty much only see them in vending machines. I haven't seen any in regular circulation since they were introduced. Most times when they are used in grocery stores the clerks will toss them in the odd coin part of the till and send them in at the end of their shifts. I don't think they realise they can be used in change back to the customer. That use to happen alot with the 50 cent piece, the Susan B Anthony coins and the 2 dollar bills. New coinage is great for collectors but wreaks havoc on the stores. David Koot Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Hmmmm . . . If I recall correctly, "In God we trust" was added to coins during one of the occasional spurts of public religiosity which the Republic has experienced over the past couple of hundred or so years. It certainly would not be consistent with the intent of the Framers of the Constitution to have such a phrase on our money, I should think. Dave Quote

It is not on the front or back so people think it isn't there Thank you Bob Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Dr. Shane Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I believe they are going to be making dollar coins with the face of all the presidents - just like they did with quarters for each state. I use them to give my kids allowance and they put them in their respective banks. I think it better that the mint remove "In God We Trust" than to have some court order them to do it. I don't see it as a big deal one way or the other. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 23, 2007 Author Members Posted July 23, 2007 okay, here's the scoop: some of the new dollar coins had a minting error where "in God We Trust" was not on some of the coins; that was corrected and now they DO have that phrase see http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/dollarcoin.asp Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. nuff sed Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Americans do not like nor do they want dollar coins. The US mint, however is making a fortune on them and will continue to do so as long as the public continues to "squirrel" them away. The mint is likewise making money "hand over fist" on the new state quarters. There are a kazillion people like me who put them aside for whatever reason I do not know..It just seems to be the thing to do. Quote
aldona Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 We've had $1 and $2 coins now for what seems like forever (certainly since I was at school, which would be the 1980's). Australian Coins (Royal Australian Mint website) The sky hasn't fallen and our nation's economy hasn't come to a screaming halt. And every so often they bring out a nice commemorative coin for some special event and everybody tries to collect them. Eventually inflation will make $1 and $2 coins more practical than notes. (oh, and you folk in the US have no denomination between $1 and $5. What's with that? Here we are used to having $1 and $2. When we were in the States, it took some getting used to counting out four $1 notes instead of 2 x $2!) aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Dr. Shane Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 There still are $2 bills - just ask your banker for them. I use them for tips - especially when I travel overseas. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
darlene Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 We now have loonies ($1) con and toonies ($2) coins. They have been accepted well and we do not have any paper $1s or $2. They certainly last longer than the paper money. Quote
