Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 13, 2007 Members Posted August 13, 2007 God is not a pancake Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 14, 2007 Administrators Posted August 14, 2007 Uhhh... Satire perhaps? :R Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Neil D Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 I didn't get it..Who originally said that "God was a pancake"? well, let's see...how could this be compared.... God is flat as a pancake? this is more of a philosophical arguement that God doesn't appeal to anyone anymore, or that possibly He is not active in human affairs or if He is active, His results are just lack luster.... God tastes as sweet as a pancake? Isn't this the variation to the arguement that God is a slotmachine? You do everything to arrange things to come out in your favor, and the results are sweet? Oh well, perhaps I didn't understand this concept.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 14, 2007 Administrators Posted August 14, 2007 Its a satirical not-to-be taken-literally illustration using an absurd comparison that God might be a pancake that would motivate the sincere and well intentioned response of those who would feel compelled to think it meaningful and needful to refute such a silly straw-man of outrageous untruth. How often do sincere and serious Christians, and inhabitants of CA more specifically, feel a need to endlessly wax eloquent refuting, or sometimes advocating, equally silly and inane notions about God or things Scriptural or merely religiously oriented on some superficial level that are just as irrelevant as they are inapt? But with time and many words it all seems rather acceptable and normal. As Dallas Willard noted in Divine Conspiracy, "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." It is just putting God in a more obviously flat and small box than we are accustomed to doing. We are just more comfortable with our less flat version of God-in-a-box and think everyone should find it as palatable as we do. But then, I could be all wrong and full of it, or something comparable to it. Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Administrators Gail Posted August 14, 2007 Administrators Posted August 14, 2007 Quote: But then, I could be all wrong and full of it, or something comparable to it. This is good, Tom. Is this yours, or could it be attributed to someone else? I'm not saying that I agree with it or disagree- I just like the quote Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
