NEW "The house of those who love Torah."

The Pacific Union and Southern California Conferences of Seventh-day Adventists in cooperation with the Canoga Park Community Seventh-day Adventist Church are pleased to announce the inauguration of a new congregational ministry, Congregation Beth Ohavey Torah, "The house of those who love Torah."

The purpose of this new ministry is two-fold:

1. To provide an authentic worship experience for those Jewish people who have come to embrace Yeshua ha Mashiach, commonly known by Christians as Jesus.

2. To provide an opportunity for interfaith couples to worship together without compromise ? a Jewish and Christian spouse can worship together in a respectful context that honors both traditions, without either party feeling pressured to convert.

3. We also anticipate that a variety of both Jews and Christians will participate in these services, and we wish to extend a very warm welcome to all who wish to join together in a worship service that combines authentic Jewish liturgical elements, with wisdom and instruction derived from both the Jewish and Seventh-day Adventist theological traditions.

We are convinced that both Jews and Christians can learn from one another, and find their own spiritual lives greatly blessed. For example, Christians have much to learn about their own "new testament" which is a Jewish book, by learning more about Jewish culture, traditions and religion. Jews, on the other hand, may find themselves both surprised and pleased to learn that what the Christian New Testament emphasizes is authentically Jewish, and consistent with the Hebrew Scriptures.

We know there are many Jews already worshipping in Seventh-day Adventist churches throughout the Los Angeles area, and we would like to develop a sense of community and mishpochah.

Schedule:

The congregation will begin meeting on a monthly basis, on Sabbath afternoons, to celebrate the close of Sabbath, the Havdalah service, and to enjoy a social time together, with food, of course. Some of the meetings will include the morning worship time. This announcement is being sent widely. To insure that you receive current information about upcoming meetings, send an e.mail request to mrliberty@churchstate.org to be added to the congregational list.

The meetings will be held at the Canoga Park Community Seventh-day Adventist Church, 20550 Roscoe Blvd, Canoga Park, CA. Exact times to be announced.

August 25th. Havdalah service to close the Sabbath at 6:30 p.m. followed by refreshments.

September 22nd. This is Yom Kippur. You?ve heard that we are living in the last days, the antitypical Day of Atonement. Now come and spend the day in heart searching and repentance. You may even wish to join those who will fast. A special meal to break the fast will be planned following the afternoon service.

October 20. We will celebrate Simchah Torah, the joy of the Torah, commemorating the end of the yearly cycle of Torah readings, and the beginning of a new year.

November 17. Special guest, Alexander Bolotnikov, director, Shalom Learning Center

December 8th. Its December, so Hanukah, of course. Bring the kids! This is a fun time! Light the Menorah, commemorate the victory of the Macabees, and celebrate Yeshua, the Light of the World!

April 19, 2008. Passover! Plans are being made for a special Seder service. You will not want to miss this!

May 10, 2008. Mother?s Day. Alan Reinach will present a special message on the status of women in Biblical law. Women were treated as "property" in Anglo-Saxon law until the 20th century. What about in the Bible?

June 14, 2008. Celebrate Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, the spring harvest and the firstfuits known to Christians as Pentecost.

September 27, 2008. Rosh ha Shonah, the Jewish New Year. The Feast of Trumpets. Revelation 14 speaks of three angels with messages to give the entire world, in fulfillment of the antitype of Rosh ha Shonah!

October 11, 2008 It is too early to know whether we will conduct a special Yom Kippur service next year on October 9, but the Day of Atonement will certainly be our theme for the Sabbath worship.
