Dr. Shane Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 "No Blood For Oil" became a liberal slogan during the First Gulf War. For centuries, nations went to war over land, for the most part. A list of endless examples could be made of nations that have gone to war over land - either to defend their land from invasion or expand their land through invasion. So the no-blood-for-oil seems to say blood-for-land is acceptable but no blood for oil. The question becomes, if anything is worth fighting for, is oil one of them? Oil means ships, trains, planes and trucks can move merchandise from where it is produced to where it is consumed. That means oil is required for farmers to get seed and fertilizer for the crops. Of course oil is needed to work the ground and produce a crop, to harvest it and get it to market. So following that to the end... Oil = Food Is food worth blood? Oil is also used to gain access to other sources of energy and transport it to market. Like coal for example. Electricity is made from coal and natural gas. So... Oil = Other Forms of Energy Are other forms of energy with blood? Some times oil is used to heat homes but often times it is another form of every that is indirectly provided by oil. That is, a truck, plane, train or ship is used to transport the other form of energy from its source to either the electric plant, natural gas distribution plant or in the case of propane, directly to the residence. Thus... Oil = Heat Is heat worth blood? Since oil is used to access other forms of energy, without it we wouldn't have television, radio, telephones, newspapers or the Internet since all these forms of mass communication require energy derived at least, indirectly from oil. So... Oil = Mass Communication Oil obviously is the energy that provides personal and mass transportation. Without affordable oil, most people would not be able to commute from their residence to their place of employment. Following that logic... Oil = Transportation Factories are all dependent on energy to produce goods which means... Oil = Manufactured Goods So is food, other forms of energy, heat, mass communication transportation and manufactured goods worth blood? If oil isn't worth going to war over, please tell, what is?
