Neil D Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 PLEASE NOTIFY ALL OF YOUR PASTORS AND MEMBERS NOW, before it’s too late to act! Do you have a full-power Adventist radio station in your conference? A short and rare window of time is opening, October 12-19, for applying for a radio frequency for a noncommercial station. Many pastors and members have not yet heard of this opportunity. Technical and legal help are available to help with applying for and starting a radio station. Most of the desirable frequencies are expected to be taken in this October’s filing window. The estimated cost for preparing and filing an application is US$4,000- $6,000. Contact: LifeTalk at 800-775-4673 / email office@lifetalk.net; or Don Martin at dempc@prodigy.net / 703-642-2344 for assistance and information. Both are on Eastern time. More information is posted in the August 17 Friday FAX at http://www.nadadventist.org/article.php?id=245. Anyone see this???? This is a golden oppertunity to get some Adventist radio stations up and going with CONTEMPORARY Christian music. KTSY has lead the way and is doing a superb bang up job. In the last 15 years, it's community budget has grown to over $250,000 and better...and the amazing part of it, the community supports it!!!! Most Adventist stations are self serving, and tend to play the old religious music to which not many of the general public listens to it. So, whatcha all think? Is there a need for adventists radio stations? what sort of programing do you want to see? what do you think the community wants? what will the community support? Dr. Shane Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 I think this is a great opportunity but I would not belittle or degrade "old religious music". Different communities have different needs. 3ABN Radio is picking up new stations all the time and can be rebroadcast on the off hours when a station goes to pre-recorded programming. Neil D Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 I have seen it all too often, where Adventists get a radio station and then play music that THEY like...in an attempt to evangelize people to become like US....That is soooo wrong... We have been the tail for so long, that we think it is a head.... KTSY has shown the adventist community what it takes to mainline evanglize thru radio...unfortunately, old time SDAS can't understand that how sucessful they have been, nor why....Here is a true miracle and truely God's leading...And 3ABN et al...all of those programs are "has beens" and myopic in thier reach....While there are a few who are reached, the great majority are not....But KTSY has shown that they can reach the majority and can integrate well within the Christian community....if we whave the heart and desire... Oh, www.895ktsy.org is a great place to listen to music on the internet. Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Dr. Shane Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Quote: where Adventists get a radio station and then play music that THEY like... That is an extremely, common sense approach. Some markets can be reached by contemporary Christian music. Other markets are already saturated with that type of music. Some markets need the preachy-type sermons. Other markets are best served with a talk-radio type of format. I don't see there is one style to meet all markets and think it overly simplistic to believe that. Quote: And 3ABN et al...all of those programs are "has beens" and myopic in their reach.... 3ABN Radio is only a few years old, is growing significantly and bringing in quite a harvest for our church. There are also other satellite stations like Life Talk Radio and Radio 74 that can be rebroadcast by local stations during time that would otherwise be preprograming. Neil D Posted September 22, 2007 Author Posted September 22, 2007 Regarding Adventist getting a radio station for them that plays Southern Gospel, et al tradtional music: "He who must not be named" wrote- Quote: That is an extremely, common sense approach. I am not sure that you comprehend what I was vaguely attempting to point out, but the reasearch from KTSY, which plays contemporary music, blantently and overwhelming points out that- 1]talk christian radio is looked upon as preaching and is NOT in favor of being listened to. 2] Slow traditional music [of which there is/was one in the Boise Idaho area] turns modern kids, youth adults, and the young at heart off. Period. end of discussion. 3] Any sort of talking on a contemporary radio station is looked upon as preaching...even the advertisments! 4] for a sucessful Adventist radio station to soar toward the top of the local radio charts, play Contemporary Christian Music, that is uplifting, has a good beat, and a good message. Advertise other christian churches events, bring in leading Christian Rock Groups for concerts once or twice a month, then ask for money from the community.....A community of Boise Idaho, population of [at the time I was there 10 years ago] 150,000 recieved $250,000 in pledges and recieved [i believe] 90% of that money. That is the facts of what was happening... Quote: 3ABN Radio is only a few years old, is growing significantly and bringing in quite a harvest for our church. I question the amount of the harvest...and the type...If you have conservative people evangelizing the general population, then you will certainly attract a few [albiet a large number compared to 5 to 10 that we are used to seeing with normal church activities.] I want to see a lot of people brought into the church...and a lot of people to mix with the conservative judgemental people that we have to lighten up the numbers and to create growth in those conservative adventists.... And Shane, you have grown...I have seen it...you have altered your views and others have commented on it....I just wnat to see more of it, both in you and in others... Dr. Shane Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 I love contemporary Christian music. That is not the point. The Holy Spirit must touch the heart in order for someone to be brought to Christ. To the carnal, spiritual things are foolishness. Where I live, we have an absolutely fantastic contemporary Christian music station. If the Adventists were to start one of their own they would be competing with the one that already exists and trying to fill a need that is already being filled. Our area also has another Christian radio station that plays the slow, older style hymns and has sermons of the likes of David Jeremiah, Charles Stanley and Chuck Swindoll. The talk-radio with children programming would be a nitch a local Adventist radio station could fit into. For areas that don't have a contemporary Christian music station established, an Adventist radio station could take advantage of that nitch and be a good and successful fit. Different markets are different and one style isn't going to fit in every market. What is successful in one market can be a complete failure in another. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
