nuff sed Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Very impressive.............BUT..........Pathfinders in general have "two left feet" when it comes to clubs marching in a parade. Guess what? The adult leaders are ofttimes worse than the kids. I hope that Florida Pathfinders learn how to march before the 2009 Camporee in Oshkosh, Wisc...................Having said all this, IMO the Southern Union Pathfinder Camporee was a smashing success......except for the litter left everywhere(especially water bottles).............There were over 5500 at Camp Kulaqua. I believe we had over 3000 come through the Nature House where my brother and I held fort discussing Reptiles and Amphibians. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 It takes a lot of training to accomplish that. When I was director of a Pathfinder club our pastor wanted us to win a title in drill and ceremony - his child was in Pathfinders. I wanted to use drill and ceremony as a means to teach teamwork. The two goals are normally incompatible. In order to win a title it normally requires sifting out all the untalented kids. As a child, I was normally one of those that got sifted out. In the military we have both. They do look for the talented and have excellent drill teams. However in basic training, there is no such sifting. The entire platoon is punished when a single member messes up. The idea is the talented members in the platoon must spend extra time with the struggling members to help them along. The entire platoon succeeds together or fails together. There is no sifting out of the "weak" members. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Dottie Posted October 6, 2007 Author Posted October 6, 2007 Is the "Captain" the person who gives the orders? If so, she is one of our teens. Quote
Amelia Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 In my day our drill instructor was an actual Army Sargeant who just happened to be the father of another girl on our team. No better way to learn your right from your left than by a pro. Alot of tears to begin with but later when we saw what we could do it was cool. Sure wish video tape had been around back then. We were awesome! And we won state championship all 4 yrs I was on the team. (not saying we won because of me just that I happened to be on the team. LOL) Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
ChildofChrist Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 When I was growing up in Michigan, we learned to march in Pathfinders. There have been times here in FL that I've attended church socials that had marching to the classic march music and I've heard stories from the older members about how they used to do it when they were young. Yes, it takes discipline and team work but learning to follow orders should be a natural for those that have been given their marching orders from our Commander in Chief, eh? And what do you expect, in a cultural context where dancing is forbidden and most other forms of movement to music (e.g. aerobics) are also suspect? aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music?
