Is that how you make friends?

I have never had much success with that...have you, Life?

"A man of too many friends comes to ruin..." Prov 18:24 NASB

"The man of many friends [a friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend..." Prov 18:24 AMP

"....do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." James 4:4 NASB

The potluck was a resounding success! Nobody made an issue of the variety of vegetarian and meat dishes because the recipe for the casseroles was placed with each dish....so everyone could see what ingredients were used. It's actually a neat idea for all potlucks - if you come across something that tasted great, you could just write down the recipe for it.

Our pastor introduced the pastor of the Baptist congregation, and then that person was asked to say the blessing. Only difference about that was that he didn't use the phrase "and bless the missionaries and colporteurs across the seas."

The Adventist members were very good about sitting with the non-SDA's and chatting with them. I have to admit, I didn't know which was which, since I don't know all that many SDA members...

Anyway, nobody got roasted... smiley_roast.gif

How Exciting. Praise God it was such a success. It would be cool if the Pastor could write up a story in the Gleaner and share the good news with other SDA congregations.

I would hope that other churches would be willing to try this.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I hope that this Pastor realizes that potluck are not in favor with Ellen White ...

It is not well to eat fruit and vegetables at the same meal." {MH 299.6}

"It is impossible for any to enjoy the blessing of sanctification while they are selfish and gluttonous." {SL 25.2}

Just don't go to any picnics ...

"All true followers of Jesus will have sacrifices to make. God will prove them and test the genuineness of their faith. I have been shown that the true followers of Jesus will discard PICNICS, donations, shows, and other gatherings for pleasure. They can find no Jesus there, and no influence which will make them heavenly minded and increase their growth in grace." (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 288.)

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I know but I know EGW gave many donations, accepted donations, and went on many a picnic. I can't imagine that all picnics have no Jesus there, that all donations are done "without Jesus there". Maybe the key is that we should think more of others than of "pleasure", making everything we do with to bind people's hearts in genuine friendship, to reach out to others, to strengthen family ties.

Posted

Thanks Taylor . Some good thoughts of moderation. Moderation is always a good choice. The more we can focus on Jesus the better. It is when we go to extremes and say that ALL picnics are bad or ALL anything ... that is when we get into trouble.

When I read EGW I see one fault in her. She needs to be more specific and less general. She tends to brand general things as "evil" or "sin". It may be for some individuals. But her general statements do not serve us well. It is like we have to get in her mind and excuse her language because "oh she must have meant this or that".

I appreciate so much of Ellen White ... but we have to be careful to not always take her literally.

Adventist missionaries along with missionaries of other denominations in foreign countries, where it is necessary to depend on each other's goodness from God, have for scores of years been depending on the encouragement of each other in times of distress, as well as in more peaceful moments. The only time the body of Christ waste their energies fighting within the fold is when they have lost their vision of joy in taking the good news of Jesus to all the World, in Word as in deed.

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40 KJV

BTW you may be interested in investing in a Hope Satellite and you'll see many of the most exciting evidences of the spreading of the gospel in the history of the body of Christ. It is a one time investment of $179-$199, plus the cost of a professional hookup if you need it. http://www.hopetv.org/ will give you all the information you need. Tel: 301-680-6689 if it's easier.

And believe ME ... you will need the professional help.More than one kind. We have had two different installers come out twice and neither was successful in getting it hooked up. This last guy is a Direct TV Satellite installer. But he is having fits. The instructions are either absent, lacking, or terrible. The parts that they say are there ... yes they are there ... but the instructions call for more parts than they say are there and are present and needed. It is a nightmare.

Just a warning. Expect trouble if you want Hope TV to be installed by anyone.

Sorry you had such a difficult time with your hookup. I had a person in who's primary occupation was installing high speed internet services. His expertise allowed him the ability to route the necessary cables very handily, although a parallel cable went out just at the time of the new routing, which problem caused some further effort.

Sometimes I believe God allows difficulties to arise just to help us determine whether we really want what He wants for us.

BTW, I still haven't been able to figure out the remote well enough to make it fully functional. Remotes give a new meaning to the words "user friendly".

There was a poll here awhile back asking how many remotes you have. At the time I had a dozen. I'm not sure how many I have now. The trouble is that I can't always find them. And when I do ... I can't always figure out how to work them. Like you say .... "User Friendly". OH YEAH. That isn't remotely true.

Thank you, carolaa. I was beginning to think few get excited about the truth except when it made them feel good. Come to think of it, I'm kinda like that too. Cheers.

Good News. After a total of 8 Hours of technician hours I finally have Adventist TV. My GloryStar System was not much glory for the technicians. I actually had more than 8 man hours into it. MORE than that considering at times there were more than one technician here at a time. Oh well. I do have it crystal clear now.

Praise God. Soon after listening to all these sermons .... I will really be able to preach to all you from what I've learned. Lol.

And NOW ... I have one more remote to figure out.

And NOW ... I have one more remote to figure out.

teehe I laughed a lot louder but thought it would be rude to laugh in front of you. And to tell you the truth I sorrowed when I heard the price you needed to pay fo hookup.

The information I received initially with the GloryStar offer was professional installation provided for $199. Having previously installed Dish myself I determined I could save some money by installing myself. After getting the instruction book for GloryStar I quickly changed my mind.

Still in contact with the person who had installed my internet service, I asked him if he felt he could do the job. He assented but had to take the book and equipment home to study the setup before starting. Finally when he did start he completed the job over a period of five or six hours. The cost, including some paraphenalia he had to buy for the dish setup on the roof, was very close to what GloryStar quoted to provide with their services.

Other than some withdrawel symptoms we're suffering from the interruption of secular TV, we found the many programs of preaching somewhat overwhelming. However with time we began to find more ministries with boots on and the overall experience is yielding more and more inspiration. It's like discovering a whole new parallel universe that offers continuous hope. That's probably why they call it HopeTV, ya think!!

We're waiting for a TV channel guide to help us key into the programs most appealing to us. There is a monthly guide that comes out but we lost the last one and are waiting for the next.

Keep looking up!! flower

I had considered having to call our resident expert ... Shane ... and have him fly out here. But finally they were able to get the job done.

If you ever lack in sermons on your GloryStar system ... I will soon be ready to preach on my own. I will then start booking appointments for any of you who are interested.Lol.

Let me just warn any of you out there ... DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL THIS SYSTEM ON YOUR OWN . It could be harzardess to your health.

We get 7 or 8 Christian channels, thanks. 3ABN being one of them.

Since I rarely have time for television, I'd rather not spend the money. We have more pressing needs.

It seems to me that if the only place we're seeing this kind of hope is in "foreign" countries, then we, the most "Christian" nation on the face of the earth are in serious trouble.

We are becoming a nation innoculated against Christianity, or at least against Christianity that actually believes Abba, not just in Abba. Even worse, most actually believe that the realm we can see is more real than the Spiritual realm.

I'm not sure what all your long post had to do with what I wrote.

All I'm saying is that if we are only seeing that hope in foreign countries, there's something seriously lacking in how we minister to our own.

What about our homeless, our goths, our atheists, our wiccans, our satanists, our "sort of Christians" who attend church on Easter, Christmas Eve, and funerals, our "cultural Christians" who sit in pews on Sabbath morning or Sunday morning because that's what is done?

What about all those who have poked their nose in a church and gotten poked right back by some well-meaning saint who looked down their nose at them, because they didn't quite fit in?

What about them?

A heart where He alone has first place.
