Retired educational administrator and author Herbert Ford has been recalled to active service by Pacific Union College as an interim vice president for advancement and alumni relations.

Ford, who began teaching journalism and public relations at PUC in 1974, replaces Jeff Veness, who recently resigned after serving for 12 years. As soon as a permanent replacement is named to the administrative post, Ford will again return to the numerous activities he has had in retirement, said college President Richard Osborn.

After teaching for eight years, Ford in 1982 was named director of public relations, fund-raising and alumni relations at PUC. He returned briefly to classroom teaching in 1983 before being named director of corporate communications for the Adventist healthcare system.

In 1984 Ford returned to PUC as vice president for advancement and alumni relations, serving until his retirement in 1989.

During his retirement years Ford has served as president of the Angwin Community Council, and as a volunteer with the Angwin Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a consultant to PUC, and has made an appearance at practically all meetings of the Napa County Board of Supervisors during the past two-and-a-half years in behalf of the needs and interests of the Angwin community.

The author of 11 books, the best-selling of which has been published in five languages, Ford has also served as director of the Pitcairn Islands Study Center at PUC, an educational facility providing information world-wide about "The Bounty Saga," one of the world's most famous sea stories.
