That's your opinion. Nonetheless, His word says that keeping the 7th day is an acknowledgment that I have no power to save myself, that ONLY God can give me righteousness and holiness. He declared this to be an everlasting covenant sign.

So says tradition.....The Sabbath, for those who understand it, is really a sign of justification by faith. See Hebrews chapter 4. Outside this there is no reason for Sabbath observance in my way of thinking. Oh sure you can bring up a multitude of OT quotes, but I can't see it in the NT.

You'll have better vision and will see more if you use your OT & NT glasses. When Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by EVERY word that proceeds out of the mouth of God," He meant the OT. It's still true today. As the Apostle Peter, quoting the Old Testament attests:

All flesh is as grass,

And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass,

The grass withers,

And its flower fall away,

But the word of the LORD endures forever." 1 Pet 1:24,25 NKJ

And as the song says:

It was good for the Apostle Peter,

It was good for the Apostle Peter,

It was good for the Apostle Peter,

It's good enough for me.

It was good for the Apostle Paul,

....It's good enough for me.

Nope, it does say that in the NT.

Oh, God's word in the OT could no longer be used as authority?

That's not my opinion. When Paul said, "All Scripture is inspired of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproff, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:16,17, he was speaking of the previously inspired word of God, the OT. So that's not just my opinion.

If it was good for the Apostle Paul,

then it's good enough for me.

The Sabbath is not a covenant - it is a sign or symbol.

If you read what I said which you even quoted above, I did not say the Sabbath is the covenant. I did say it is the sign of the everlasting covenant.

Interesting discussion. I definately think the Sabbath is parallel to spiritual rest in Christ. I also think that it has a physical purpose. There is a benefit to taking time off to replenish yourself after a hard week of work. I personally enjoy being able to do that. It's also beneficial for your spiritual life. The entire day is spent reflecting on God, his word, etc. Maybe the NT letters don't mention the Sabbath much because it wasn't an issue? From the tone of most of the letters, what was addressed were things that the early church struggled with (pride, hatred, sexual immorality, confusion over certain Jewish customs).

Great Post Pacu ... I like what you have said. But I do also think that there are many spiritual issues surrounding Sabbath and Sabbath keeping such as Righteousness by Works in some people who keep Sabbath. They Jews like SDAs had a problem with making it legalistic.

IMO the Lord is going to ask us only two questions when he comes.

#1 Did you love me?

#2 Did you obey me?

I believe that the Sabbath for mankind today is the same test as the tree of Knowledge of Good and Eve was for Adam and Eve. It has nothing to do with a 'day' and 'everything' to do with obedience.

I agree with you. But my answer IS .... NO.

I have not loved enough and I have not obeyed enough.

I do not deserve Salvation. But then it comes down to :

1.) Who do you know?

2.) Who knows YOU? !!

Then Jesus steps in and says .... I know him. Take my life and my death in his place. I am then judged by His life NOT mine.

Quote:
"It was possible for Adam, before the fall, to form a righteous character by obedience to God's law. But he failed to do this, and because of his sin our natures are fallen and we cannot make ourselves righteous. Since we are sinful, unholy, we cannot perfectly obey the holy law. We have no righteousness of our own with which to meet the claims of the law of God. But Christ has made a way of escape for us. He lived on earth amid trials and temptations such as we have to meet. He lived a sinless life. He died for us, and now He offers to take our sins and give us His righteousness. If you give yourself to Him, and accept Him as your Saviour, then, sinful as your life may have been, for His sake you are accounted righteous. Christ's character stands in place of your character, and you are accepted before God just as if you had not sinned." Steps to Christ p.62

It is not our life nor our character that will be judged. It will be Christ's. Our characters are not fit for heaven . They will have to be changed at the second coming when we SEE His face.

"I will be your representative in heaven. The Father behold NOT your FAULTY character, but He sees you as clothed in MY perfection " DA 357

Quote:
"The Lord places the obedience of His Son to the sinner's account. Christ's righteousness is accepted in place of man's failure, and God treats him as though he were righteous, and loves him as He loves His Son, This is how faith is accounted righteousness" 1SM 367
