Stan Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Ever wondered what "THEY" have in their Holy Book? Todays devotional Quote in English ----copy and Paste - - - BILAAVAL, FIFTH MEHL: Without the Fear of God, and devotional worship, how can anyone cross over the world-ocean? Be kind to me, O Saving Grace of sinners; preserve my faith in You, O my Lord and Master. || 1 || Pause || The mortal does not remember the Lord in meditation; he wanders around intoxicated by egotism; he is engrossed in corruption like a dog. Utterly cheated, his life is slipping away; committing sins, he is sinking away. || 1 || I have come to Your Sanctuary, Destroyer of pain; O Primal Immaculate Lord, may I dwell upon You in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. O Lord of beautiful hair, Destroyer of pain, Eradicator of sins, Nanak lives, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. || 2 || 9 || 125 || Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Stan Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 The Three Fundamentals of Sikhism Equality of Humans: When throughout the East and West Slavery and race discrimination was rife, and disrespect amongst the different classes and castes was at its peak, Nanak preached against discrimination and prejudices due to race, caste, status, etc. He said: "See the brotherhood of all mankind as the highest order of Yogis; conquer your own mind, and conquer the world." (SGGS page 6); also "There is one awareness among all created beings." (Page 24) and finally "One who recognizes the One Lord among all beings does not talk of ego. ||4||" (page 432). He urges all the peoples of the world to "conquer" their minds to these evil practises. All human beings had the light of the Lord and were the same – only by subduing one's pride and ego could one see this light in all. Equality of Women: In about 1499 when society offered little status or respect to women, Nanak Dev sought to elevat the position of women by spreading this message: "From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married. Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come. When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound. So why call her bad? From her, kings are born. From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all. O Nanak, only the True Lord is without a woman." (Page 473). In so doing he promoted the equality of women in the 15th century. Nanak Dev also condemned the ritual of Sati some 300 years prior to the British doing so. Universal message for all People It had been a custom at the time for religious leaders to address only their own congregation, and for segregation of the different religions – but Nanak Dev broke with tradition, and spoke to all of humanity. To the Muslim he said: "And when, O Nanak, he is merciful to all beings, only then shall he be called a Muslim. ||1||" (page 141"; to the Hindu, he said "O Nanak, without the True Name, of what use is the frontal mark of the Hindus, or their sacred thread? ||1||" (page 467); and to all he preached: "To take what rightfully belongs to another is like a Muslim eating pork, or a Hindu eating beef." (Page 141). Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Stan Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 Ek On Kar Sikhs believe there is only one God, who has infinite qualities and names. He is the same for all religions. God is the Creator and Sustainer. All that you see around you is God's creation. He is everywhere, in everything. He is fearless and has no enemies. Only God is without birth or death, and He has and will exist forever. The following are quotations from the Guru Granth Sahib: a). There is but one God (from page 45): There is only the one Supreme Lord God; there is no other. Soul and body are all Yours. Whatever pleases You shall happen. Through the Perfect Guru, one becomes perfect. O Nanak, meditate on the True One. ||4||9||79|| The original verses are: Paarbarahm parabh ayk hai doojaa naahee ko-ay. Jee-o pind sabh tis kaa jo tis bhaavai so ho-ay. Gur poorai pooraa bha-i-aa jap naanak sachaa so-ay. ||4||9||79|| For the original text, see SriGranth.org and enter the page number. . God the Creator (page 1036): He formed the planets, solar systems and nether regions, and brought what was hidden to manifestation. When He so willed, He created the world. Without any supporting power, He sustained the universe. Moderators John317 Posted December 15, 2007 Moderators Posted December 15, 2007 No question that God has not left Himself without witness among all of the nations. I personally believe, based on his "Apology," that Socrates was like a prophet among the Athenians. (I'm not saying he was "inspired" in the way the Bible writers were.) There is also the fact that early Christianity influenced many of the Eastern religions, such as Hinduism, during its formative years. Jews brought much of the truth to the Chinese people. Marco Polo writes of finding Jews and Nestorian [Assyrian] Christians, who kept the seventh-day Sabbath, in China. And we know that there were Christians in India within the lifetime of Thomas. Many East Indians trace their Christian roots back to Thomas' preaching the gospel in India. See Truth Triumphant by B. G. Wilkinson, pp. 347-364. There is a mixture of truth and error in almost all of those religions. Some have more truth than others, of course. I haven't studied the Sikh Holy Book at all. I would be interested in seeing more of it if you care to post it. Regards, "John 3: 17" Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Stan Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 They read their Holy Book, and the name escapes me, out loud every weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning, which means over the entire Seventh-day Sabbath they are reading it. I find that most interesting. They do request, that if you have one, that you keep it in a place of respect. ALSO, they ask you to wash your hands before you touch it, and not to touch it if you have alcohol or caffeine in your body. M. T. Cross Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I remember talking to a Sikh in Surrey in the early 90's. At that time there was a lot of racial tension going on due to an incident where some skinheads had murdered a Sikh guard at one of the temples there. The Sikh I was talking to told me that they would be required by their teachings to give those very same skinheads shelter and food in the temple if they were in need. And he said the would do it without hesitation. Quote

LifeHiscost Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Not wishing to be negative re: the good many individuals do, those who have faith as well as those with little or no faith at all. However the Christ is the only One Who yielded His life for those attempting to take His, and to equate any human being as exemplifying the Son of God without making it clear it is impossible for them to do any good at all without His indwelling power, is to diminish the Son of God as just another one of the many gods with good advice. Disciples of Christ, as well as those who will be disciples of His, are the only ones who have a Savior with an empty tomb. God cares! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Moderators lazarus Posted December 6, 2013 Moderators Posted December 6, 2013 have either of you connected with any Sikhs? Grew up with many Sikh's in my class all the way through school. As a kid next door neighbors on one side were Sikh. One of my high school buddies that I am still in touch with is from a Sikh family but has cut his hair now and but doesn't really identify as Sikh. Never had a negative experience with someone practicing Sikhism. Where I live now there are not many practicing as far as I am aware. Just like Cornelius my guess is that there are many Sikh's who have been received by God. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted December 7, 2013 Administrators Posted December 7, 2013 There is a Sikh temple just a quarter mile front he General Conference. I intend to visit some week end. My orthopedist when I had my last motorcycle accident is a a Sikh. Very good doctor. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 7, 2013 Moderators Posted December 7, 2013 Quote: Sikh, by the way, is pronounced "sick". Quote: The New York-based Sikh Coalition says the correct pronunciation is 'sik' with a slightly aspirated 'h' at the end. Group spokesman Amardeep Singh says 'seek' is an Americanized pronunciation. He says it's incorrect, although many members of the predominantly Indian religion do use it for simplification. He says 'seek' doesn't sound like the word 'sick,' so the tweak lets them avoid having to explain that their religion isn't equated with sickness. Quote: A special note about the pronunciation of the word Sikh is in order because most English speakers tend to pronounce it as "seek." In fact, it should be pronounced "se-ikh." Both of the letters in the kh should be used, as with the name Mikhail Gorbachev. Quote Gregory
