Federal ID Card coming in May 2008---did you know?

I have read that congress passed the bill to have states issue a federal ID card (it was attached to a bill on tsunami aid and something else)- it is voluntary at first but if you don't get it you cannot board an airplane, enter a federal building, have bank accounts at large banks and some other things. I hadn't heard about it until recently- So I wrote to my congressmen and senators and told them I didn't like it. Also considering there is a presedential election coming up- another interesting thing I read was that Ron Paul voted against the Federal ID card-this wasn't in any campaign literature- it was in an article about the federal ID card. Google it and read-

Thank you Shane. I agree with you 100%. Just think of all the problems that a National ID Card would prevent and the money that it would save. I would definately support any candidate that would support the idea. Maybe it would be good to list the politicians who support this needed plan.

By 2008, motorists will have to submit to formal identification checks to obtain or renew U.S. drivers licenses: TRUE.

A federal identification number will be issued to each driver's license holder who has passed the identification process: FALSE

Help me if I am wrong ... but will this not prevent illegals and terrorists from getting ID here? Would this not save a lot of money with the fight to control illegals getting into and staying in this country. I do hope the word reaches the illegals in other countries.

I've posted stuff about the real id act, or the fed I.D. on here as few times. No one paid any attention to it. I work in a driver license ofc here in Texas, and Texas is probably the most strict in terms in i.d. policy among the states. In fact, it has been said that the feds are modeling their real id policies on what is being done in Tx.

They have been talking about this at work for at least 2 to 3 years. They planned to make every eligible person, which is anyone 16 years old or older, come in and re establish their I.D. with at least 4 forms on documentation. Other states were following suit. About 20 states boycotted the plan, then it all fell through.

There was even talk at work about going to a 10 hour a day, 6 day a week work week. The one day they didn't plan to work was on Sunday, naturally. I've had issues with management about working on the sabbath before, and when this 6 day a week plan was being discussed, the office manager mentioned something about "if you can't or will not work this schedule, you need to find another job". it felt that was directed at me.

Anyway, the Lord stepped in, and the federal id act has been put on hold. i wouldn't be surprised if the plan comes back in the future. As of right now it is on hold, as far as I know.

I thought about it. It never got that far. I did let it be known, in a round about way that I could reach some people that could reach some higher up people. I really didn't want the stress. It was a one saturday thing. I wouldn't of paid much attention to it, except this one supervisor threatened my job. Everything is okay now. I think that sooner or later the federal and state governments are going to make an attempt to get a federal id established. I think it fits in well with prophecy. I don't think a federal id is the mark of the beast, or anything like that, but it could be used to impliment such a thing.

Whenever our government issues some sort of card or license, it is always used for reasons that are extra of the original intent.

When the social security card and number were issued it was for some sort of financial benefit. Now, you can't get anything done without a aocial security card and number. Most people can't get a driver license without one. I see it everyday. Some immigrants who have immigration documents can get a license without an ss card. Usually they end up getting one anyway due to pressures and issues in other aspects of their life.

Same thing with a driver license. The original purpose of a driver license was just that, it was a license that allowed individual to operate a vehicle on public streets. Now, just about any transaction you do requires either your driver license card or number. You can't get on a plane without one, your can't get a passport without one, it is difficult to go to school without one. It is even hard to buy groceries without a dl card.

I mention all this because a federal id will be used the same way, only more so.The technology if available now so that they can put your whole life history onto some small nano section of a potential federal smart id card. Imagine checking out of a grocery line and the clerk being able to see your whold medical history, or last year's income tax return?

In some countries where they have natioanl ID cards, the citizens can't move from one section of the country to another without their movements being monitored by the police. I could go on and on. I don't think it is a good idea, but I think it is coming just the same.

I think a lot of countries have had federal IDs for a long time. During the civil war my wife grew up in, in El Salvador, those caught on the street without their federal ID were often executed immediately. This was because the gorillas were hiring mercenaries for other countries.

It has the potential to make life difficult for many law abiding citizens in the near future.

When the terrorists did what they did, Americans were quick to give up a lot of their privacy issues. It's sort of like the beach here in FL when the riptides come in and tear away a bit more of the sand. Eventually any house built too close ends up without their foundation being solid.

I don't know what privacy issues people are concerned about. The government already knows where every US citizen is working is because their employers are paying tax into their SS accounts. The federal government also has access to all the states driver license records. They have access to our bank accounts, utility and credit card bills. About the only thing they can't find out now is what we are buying with cash and how many times we pray each day.

Kulongoski rejects driver's license rule delay request

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Gov. Ted Kulongoski has rejected calls from Hispanic groups to delay implementing tougher state rules for obtaining a driver's license.

On Monday, the groups submitted 5,000 petition signatures to the Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division in Salem, asking for a one-year delay.

But Patty Wentz, Kulongoski's spokeswoman, told the Statesman Journal newspaper Thursday that the executive order "absolutely" will not be delayed.

Ramon Ramirez, the president of the Northwest Treeplanters and Farmworkers United, the state's largest farmworker union, accused Kulongoski of not valuing the state's Latino immigrant community.

"What the governor is basically saying to immigrants is, 'I don't care about you, and I don't care about your rights,"' Ramirez said.

Kulongoski signed the executive order in November. It requires, after Feb. 4, that applicants show proof of legal residence to get an Oregon license.

As of now, immigrants in Oregon can use a Mexican ID card supplied only by the Mexican Consulate in Portland to get Oregon licenses. That would end when the new rules take effect.

Oregon is one of only a handful of states that does not require proof of legal residence for a license. Kulongoski has said all Oregon driver's licenses might become invalid as ID for boarding commercial airliners or visiting federal office buildings if the state doesn't comply with federal requirements insisting on proof of legal residence for a license.

Jim Ludwick, the president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, a group that advocates against illegal immigration, praised the governor's decision.

"He has taken a very positive and strong position on an issue that needs to be dealt with," Ludwick said.

Back in November, the governor said the DMV would inform Oregonians about the new rules and required documents in advance of the Feb. 4 implementation date. But with that date just one month away, the DMV has yet to send out brochures or make public service announcements about the changes.

I stand corrected. They are coming out with some new driver licenses. It is happening right now, or sometime soon. As I mentioned, they discussed it a lot at work in the past 2 years. This time they were quiet about it.

As I read recently, 17 states are balking at the plan. By 2014, if those states, or any state of the united states, does not comply with new national id policy, then the citizens of that state will not be allowed to enter federal buildings or to board air planes without the new id.

I read also that those who are over 50 will not need to get the new id but, those under 50 years old will have to do so.

Interesting, to say the least.

What can I say? Perhaps you are one of those who feel ready for that event. I do not feel ready for Jesus' return. I don't mean as far as my assurance of salvation now. I mean being ready to stand during the time of trouble, the great test of our faith which lies ahead. I have stuff to work on. So no, I am not one who would say, 'Bring it on.' I pray for God to have mercy upon me, and help me to be ready.

Dave ... it is my personal belief that what God wants is our hearts. Once he has that He will provide whatever is needed for the time of trouble. He gives us strength as we need it. I don't think He wants us to fear that time. I think He wants us to be confident that He will provide. When we have that kind of faith ... He will reward.

I am one of the "Bring it on kinds" as I suspect you might have known. All that we need is there and is promised for us. I think He wants us to have that assurance for the end time ... IF we are in the end time.

If my state fully implements the new id act, more than likely they are going to require me and other employees to come in and work on Saturdays. That's my main concern.
